MECHANICAL ADDING MACHINE

I can remember seeing one in the company I started working for at the end of 1974, but just before I started working there, they stopped using THE ACCOUNTING MACHINE. This was very similar to an ADDING MACHINE, but an ACCOUNTING MACHINE was roughly 10 times the size of an Adding Machine.

When I left school I trained as a comptometer operator, (adding and calculating machine). I started on a machine made in 1913, eventually we got new electric ones with touch buttons, so much easier. Now the only place you will see one is in a museum. When I explained to my grandchildren what a comptometer was they just said , why didn't you use you phone !!!!!!
