I remember Dad teaching me how to ride a 2 wheeler bike. He was holding onto the back seat while I pedalled. I was chatting away to him, and suddenly turned my head to look at him. He was a LONG LONG away from me while I was finally riding my bike.
Another time, I would run to the end of the street, waiting for my day to come back from work on his bike. When he got to me, he put me on the cross bar and took me home like that. Great memories. Miss you Dad ! <3

I was raised by my grandparents who were the most amazing people.
I have so many memories but one that stands out was my dog Pal.

He was a German Shepherd who was my best friend and on many times my protector.

I think I was maybe 4 and decided to go for a walk up the street when all of a sudden my dog grabbed hold of my jumper and was trying to take me home. In the end he let go and barked louder than I ever heard. It got my grandmothers attention because she came running out.
Turns out my dog had actually jumped the side gate to come after me, which he had never done before.

Many a time my dog would lay down so I could get on his back and he would then take me for a ride around the backyard.

My cousin Peter who was 2 years older than me, had pushed me and for the first time Pal showed his teeth and growled loudly so Whenever my cousins came to visit Pal would need to go into the garage while we played in the backyard .

I remembercoming home one Saturday night to find my dog was gone. I was told that he was given to my grandfathers friend who had other dogs for him to play with. I think I cried for days.
Many years later I was told when my grandfather came home that afternoon he found that Pal had passed away. He felt it was best to say he went somewhere where he had other dogs.

I think these are the strongest memories I have as a child

I grew up in Germany as a daughter of a farmhand, there were 7 of us, 4 boys and 3 girls and we all had various jobs to do around the house and the farm that dad worked at. My happiest memories are when I went with dad at 5 in the morning bringing in the cows and milking. After all the morning tasks were done we would walk through the forest nearby hand in hand singing and whistling, collecting berries and flowers, before we would go home for breakfast.

I was only two and a half, now 76. My mother was in hospital for the birth of my younger brother and an uncle and aunt had me at their house, being my uncle's "favourite" nephew. I was outside quietly playing. I remember , ans still picture the creek, running across the backyard through a small clump of tall bamboo plants. I was having a ball.
Meanwhile, in the house Auntie Dor and uncle Bill are doing the dishes, and I believe a conversation along these lines took place.
"Bill, you had better go out and check on Barry.'
"He's ok. Can't hear him."
"But, ok He's quiet but what's he up to?"
"He's playing. Leave him be".
"You'd better check,still."
"Ok."
Bill came outside briefly, saying
Just come and have a look at this!
19 years later, as a young police officer, I called in on Auntie Dot. Uncle Bill had passed away a couple of months before.
I was saying that I was sure I had the right house but with the houses in the area being around 100 years old, it had thrown me that I couldn't see where the creek that ran through the backyard had gone.
"We haven't had a creek in the backyard. "
"Yes, I remember it running through yje the clump of bamboo in the back corner. There was a paling fence between yours, and your mother's yards, and two or three bits of wood were missing. You had no garden to mention and the yard was covered in recycled red bricks"

"The bamboo was right, the fence is right and missing panels is right, and as you see the red bricks are still there But I do t know where you get the creek from, we've never had a creek. No room for one. "
I continued to present the fact as recalled by a two and a half year old boy, after a 19 rear break. Then the penny dropped.
"I know exactly what you are talking about."
Auntie Dot repeated the original story, and continued
"On stepping outside, The flat backyard was under an inch of water, and every tap in the yard was turned on full.
That's where you get your cree from." :Uncle Bill could not see anything wrong.
"He's a boy."

A Beautiful Childhood Memory of my Dad and his brother In their Scottish kilts Doing the Highland fling in our tiny little kitchen in England... loved My Father So much He was My Hero. 💞

My Dad was a baker/confectioner and I used to love watch him decorate cakes. If there was a birthday coming up in the family Dad would make a cake, decorate it with piping and pipe Happy Birthday and the name on top. I was fascinated how he could do this and sometimes he would let me have a go just writing with the piping bag on the laminex table top. I was pretty wobbly but it was great fun and we enjoyed the father daughter time. Needless to say my two brothers weren't into cake making only cake eating!

As youngsters my sister and I loved our secondhand bikes that were our favoured mode of transport on numerous adventures around our neighbourhood. We were fearless on those bikes and weathered many crashes and falls, especially when we raced around our house in opposite directions and learnt that its hard to see around corners when going at speed. Perhaps the most memorable occasion was up the road where a lady always seemed to be looking out the window watching the world go by. We decided we could make things more interesting and in a fit of "showing off" my sister tried some crazy manoeuvre with her bike. But it didnt go quite according to plan. Instead of performing some amazing stunt she went sailing over the handlebars to end up in a heap. Luckily she suffered no major damage, other than to her pride. And the lady in the window certainly got a new view of the world!!

My favourite memories from our childhood was when we went to the beach every weekend in the summer, when we were in the surf Mum or Dad would let us dive off their shoulders into the water. There was 3 of us & we never realised why they were so tired when we all got home & Mum & Dad needed to lie down of an afternoon. My sister & I still talk about it now. We had great parents & were very lucky, not much money but a very happy childhood. 😍😍

l remember playing ''Postmans Knock'' with my sister and John the boy who lived opposite us.
l also remember when l went with my sister and John to a car yard and they painted the cars there. l did try and stop them but it was me that got the leather strap from my mother when the police came because l was the eldest and should have known better :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Treasure Hunts.
I would run treasure hunts in my background for some of the local kids.
I would hide a few things in my backyard and under the house, make up a little maps and clues to give each person, then on the word of ‘Go’ they would have to use the maps and clues to find the hidden things in the backyard.
Lots of fun for me to set up and then watch them all try to solve the puzzles!

I was so excited when I won my very first colouring in competition as a child. The prize was only a stuffed toy, but it was very special at the time. (We didn't have much as Mum was a single parent after my parents separated and she worked hard for what we needed.) I love to enter competitions to this very day!

I don't have a lot of favourite memories from my childhood so i'll borrow one from my own childs memories.
Even though my son left us 8 years ago on the 29th of April my favourite memory of his childhood was Christmas eve when he was little. We would go outside at night and look to the stars, as soon as we saw a shooting star he would get all excited and say it was Santa's sleigh so he would run inside and straight to bed thinking he was on his way. One year we saw a comet with a red tail, that was the most excited i'd ever seen him and that excitment rubbed off on me ❤️ ☄️

We were very lucky to have my grandparents living not far from us & saw them regularly. But my favourite time was going to their place in the school holidays & having a trip " into town"! We live in Melbourne so this was a short walk to catch a tram into the city. A wander through the big shops and lunch at Coles cafeteria. Everyone dressed up to go into town so this meant a hat& gloves to match your outfit. Those were the best days and I will always treasure them.

l remember my daughter Karen being really upset and tears in her eyes when l said we would have to fly somewhere and she said ''But mummy l can't fly''

I was about 7 this was about 1953 in London, my dad was a postman and he used to come home in the post van for lunch, he left the big van outside our council house and I went outside and got in the cab, sat down and let the hand brake off, it was on a bit of a slope and started to roll slowly, realising what was happening I pulled the hand brake back on again. I scared myself a bit and I didn't tell my dad.

During the Second World War, my father made me a sledge from a breadboard. It had two sides with metal strips on the bottom and a rope handle to pull appropriately for guidance. Winter came and so did the snow. As a 7-year-old, I had lots of fun with my friends, using it on the four Anderson shelters dug into the block of land opposite my house. Whee! Whee! Up and over!
