Matildas thump Canada: Our Golden Girls move into knockout stages in historic scenes
I know not everyone watches the soccer, but I couldn't not give this a huge shout-out in our newsletter this afternoon! For those of you who aren't across the Women's World Cup at the moment, our Matildas needed a win last night against the reigning Olympic champions, Canada, to move onto the next round... And my oh my, a win is exactly what they got!
Not only have the Matildas claimed a stunning 4-0 result over Canada, but Australia will top group B after a 0-all draw between Ireland and Nigeria! Post-match Bruce McAvaney from Channel 7 highlighted that it was the greatest World Cup winning margin in Matildas history and also the first time the defending Olympic champs hadn’t made at least the quarterfinals.
