Make your next party a hit with this budget-friendly cake recipe!

Celebrations with your loved ones are always a joy, but as we all know too well, these events can sometimes put a bit of strain on the budget. After all, there are invitations to send out, décor to arrange, and food to prepare.

And let's not forget the crowning glory—the cake!

Thankfully, there's a certain supermarket that's becoming increasingly popular amongst Aussies due to its budget-friendly and high-quality offerings.

ALDI certainly is a game-changer, and once again, they're making our life a little bit easier and our celebrations a whole lot sweeter with their 99c White Mill Vanilla Cake Mix.

You read that right—for just a few dollars, you can create a sensational six-tier rainbow cake, the kind of jaw-dropping dessert that inevitably draws in lots of 'oohs' and 'ahhs'. Who said luxury had to be expensive?

Now, before we dive into the details, let's clear something up: there's absolutely nothing wrong with taking a shortcut, especially when it saves time and money. Hence, using a cake mix instead of making it from scratch is not only incredibly smart, but it's also a convenient way to guarantee consistent results every time.

So, without further ado, here's how to put this fabulous cake together:

First, purchase three boxes of ALDI's White Mill Vanilla Cake Mix, and prepare them following the instructions on the box.

If you're a more adventurous baker, feel free to jazz up the mix with any extra flavours that tickle your fancy, be it a dash of vanilla, lemon zest, or even a pinch of cinnamon.

Now, let's talk about taking your cake from ordinary to extraordinary. If you're feeling as vibrant as we are, it's time to get colourful! Break out the food colouring and add a few drops to each batter. Stir, mix, and swirl until you've achieved the perfect rainbow shades.

After your cakes have been baked to perfection and cooled down, it's time to showcase your icing skills. Buttercream icing is the trusted companion here, bringing a luxurious touch to your masterpiece while acting as the delicious 'glue' that holds your layers together. (Feel free to check the recipe below!)

Then, let your imagination run wild with toppings. Add an assortment of whimsical sprinkles, scatter some delightful chocolates, or go wild with edible glitter to create a true spectacle that will leave your guests in awe.

Remember, the key to a light-hearted baking adventure is to let your creativity soar. Embrace the joy of experimenting, have fun with colours, and don't be afraid to add a little extra 'magic'.

With your multi-tiered rainbow cake complete, get ready to dazzle your friends and family with a dessert that looks as amazing as it tastes!

Of course, you're not limited to making only large 6-tier cakes. One creative woman on social media claimed, 'Cheap cake mixes are so good. I often turn mine into cupcakes for lunches for the family!!'

Another happy customer shared the sentiment: 'Love that! So achievable,' wrote another.

And indeed, we can all agree with the third member: 'I'm saving this for the kids' birthday cake!'

We have no doubt that this 99c-ingredient cake recipe will soon become your party's secret weapon too. A stunning six-tier cake for a few dollars? We love to see it!

Those colours in that cake are awful, I've done a six layer rainbow cake before but THINK rainbow , use pastel colours including lilac, soft pink , yellow, pale blue. Pale green ect
Icing / butter cream I keep white or pale pink / pale blue . Sometimes chocolate and add chocolates or fresh flowers to decorate

These are cakes I've make with easy decoration , my daughters baby shower, granddaughter's 5th birthday, sons 40th and daughters 21st the last 2 was celebrated together

The last photo was a rainbow cake made vegan which is why is was not standing up like the others

999 cents for a packet of cake mix , what is in there , can not be the best ingredients. I will never buy the pre-mix packets , it is very easy to make cakes, muffins etc from scratch and you know what’’s in there . Look at the buttercream , only butter and sugar in that and if you want colours in that , more artificial stuff. I have never ever made that kind of cakes . Rather put fruit in it or on top , keeps it moist as well .

I have been buying the cheap packet mixes for some time now. Aldi is the best in my opinion but they are also available at Woolies & Coles. Lots of things can be added to them like chocolate chips, tin apples, bananas, tin of crushed pineapple, chopped dates, etc. etc.
