Make packing for your next holiday easier with this mind-blowing travel trick!

Holidays are supposed to be exciting and enjoyable, a chance to relax, recharge and escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

From choosing the perfect destination to planning activities, there's much to look forward to when planning a holiday.

But for many people, the excitement of a holiday is dampened as soon as they remember one important task: packing.

For some, the idea of packing can be overwhelming, while for others, it's simply a chore they would rather avoid.

The thought of having to sort through clothes, toiletries, and other essentials, deciding what to take and what to leave behind, can be a source of stress and anxiety.

If you love to look your best on holiday and want to take great photos in your destination, then you know how packing jewellery can be frustrating and challenging.

Untangling jewellery is one of the most daunting things, and unpacking and sorting can take longer than desired.

Luckily, TikTok offers us all kinds of tips to make our lives much easier. There’s one unlikely trick for packing your jewellery that will save you from the wrath of tangled necklaces and bracelets.

And no, it doesn’t involve buying one-of-a-kind jewellery boxes you’d probably never use anyway.

US comedian Whitney Cummings recently shared a video explaining how travellers should be packing their necklaces through drinking straws to avoid them from tangling.

‘Something I wish I would have known about when I was younger was this life hack where you don’t tangle your necklaces when you travel,’ she said in the clip.

‘You’re going to get a straw. Then you’re going to put the necklace in the straw.’

‘It is harder than it looks. Then you’re going to fashion it again. Can’t tangle it now.’

As weird as it might sound, Whitney’s video was flooded with comments from fellow travellers hailing the trick as ‘genius’.

One user wrote: ‘Well, brilliant – life changed.’

‘I could have saved myself so much stress and rage all these years!’ another said.

A third chimed in: ‘Thank you! This is such an easy, well – kinda hack.’

While many users supported the claim, some suggested using paper straws instead of plastic to secure jewellery. Others found the hack to be too much work.

One comment read: ‘Way too much work still … Why I’m almost never wearing jewellery.’

Other TikTok users suggested alternative ways to prevent tangling.

One woman suggested using a ziplock bag with the clasp on the outside, while another recommended using paper towel tubes for big chains.

One person recommended: ‘They stay put in the clear wrap and it sticks shut around them.’

Another user shared how she uses a scarf to wrap her necklaces, explaining: ‘Tightly roll your necklaces in a scarf and then loosely roll end to end. Place in a pouch, and no more knots!’

I store all my necklace like this! However, I don’t take necklaces with me when I travel. I wear the same one all the time on holiday. I only take a spare pair of earrings, in case I lose one.

Great idea, even at home. However, plastic straws no more. Maybe get some thin piping and cut and store necklaces like this at home.

If going overseas, do yourselves a very big favour and leave your good jewellery at home. Never pack them into your checked-in luggage, including your camera, lenses, laptop, spare cash, as all of them are excluded under your travel insurance. The checked-in luggage is for clothing only. If you must, take the expensive with carry-on. If travelling alone, never ever place them onto the overhead luggage. Should be in bag that fits under the front seat along with a handbag, or all should be in one bag, along with passports, travel docs etc. Also, always take that bag with you when you have to use the bathroom on the plane, train, tour bus. Never ever trust that person next to you. Thieves take every opportunity including taking that extra bag from the overhead compartment. They always have an extra empty bag and slip your bag inside theirs and your items are gone.
