Love is in the air: Jetstar passenger takes over PA system for unbelievable surprise

It's not every day that a routine flight becomes the setting for a heartwarming tale that leaves passengers reaching for the tissues.

But on a recent Jetstar flight from Adelaide to Bali, the passengers witnessed an in-flight twist that turned an ordinary journey into an unforgettable moment of romance and joy.

As the plane cruised at altitude, a seemingly routine announcement became a life-changing event for two special passengers.

Matt Ellis, a man with a plan and a heart full of love, took over the PA system to surprise his partner, Sam Dwight, with a question that would alter the course of their lives.

The video footage from the flight showed a Jetstar flight attendant, already teary-eyed with anticipation, inviting Matt to the front of the aircraft.

‘I’m crying already,’ the flight attendant said, getting emotional at what was about to happen.

The passengers, intrigued by the unfolding scene, watched as Matt took the microphone and introduced himself.

His voice, filled with emotion, echoed through the cabin as he asked Sam to stand up.

He spoke of meeting Sam during a challenging time in his life and how she became his beacon of hope.

‘I met Sam when I was at a pretty dark space in my life and she has been an absolute light in the worst time,’ Matt said.

'She has stuck by me through thick and thin, and she obviously makes me a better person in general. And I reckon once you find that, you've got to hold onto it.'

With those heartfelt words, a stunned Sam stood in the aisle, her hand covering her mouth in disbelief.

Matt, seizing the moment, continued, ‘So if you’ll have me…’

He bent down on one knee, presented a ring, and asked her to marry him.

The cabin erupted in applause as Sam said yes, sealing their engagement with the warmth and well-wishes of their fellow travellers.

The couple later appeared on Sunrise, where Matt revealed that Sam had almost uncovered his original proposal plan, prompting him to devise the high-flying surprise.

‘When I got up there and looked down [the aisle], there were a few heads facing me, and I was pretty nervous,’ Matt said.

They both joked, however, about the potential awkwardness had she said no, given the confined space of an aeroplane.

This isn't the first time love has been declared publicly.

Last year, an ALDI worker put a customer’s weekly shop through the till until her partner approached her and got down on one knee during her shift.

To add to the spectacle, her partner hired a bagpipe player dressed in a kilt to perform as he entered the store.
