This launch marked Vegemite's 100th birthday, and with just a limited number available, it's no wonder these fascinating jars are already the talk of the town.

The silver jars came in two sizes, 1 oz and 3 oz, priced at $160 and $320, respectively. With only 500 jars of each size produced, it's an exclusive celebration of Vegemite's enduring popularity.

Those lucky enough to grab one of these limited edition jars automatically enter the running to win one of five 18-karat gold-plated fine silver mini jars—talk about a golden opportunity!

Gina Gardenal, a self-proclaimed 'tragic' Vegemite fan, was among the lucky Aussies who successfully purchased a jar.

'(I) was there madly tapping away with the keys and putting in the credit card number.' she said, making it clear that Vegemite fans won't miss out on this chance to grab a jar.

Melbourne Gold and Silver Managing Director Chris Kerrison believes the jars were designed 'to appeal to collectors who want to own a piece of Australian history’.

He said, 'We’re thrilled to be working with Vegemite to create this unique product that celebrates an icon in its 100th year.'

It's no secret that Vegemite is still as popular as it was 100 years ago. With nearly 300 jars produced each minute, that's an astonishing 20 million jars yearly!

As a testament to Vegemite's lasting appeal, Bega General Manager Adam McNamara has said, 'That proves how popular the product here is in Australia.'

Collectors are optimistic that the value of these limited edition jars will increase over time.

Ronnie Bauer from Melbourne's Klepner's Jewellers and Valuers said, 'They’re using fine silver, which is almost pure silver.' With high-quality materials used, there's no doubt that these jars make for an excellent investment.

I wonder what 70 year celebration jars of Vegemite would be worth now days. I don’t know why but we have 2 of these Jars of Vegemite in perfect condition.

Yes I like my 70 years jar much better. This 100 years is way overpriced. Doesn't appeal to me at all.

Wouldn't buy vegemite if i didn't have a cat that i give it to to make it bring up furballs - works 100% better than catlax from the vet and a lot cheaper too.

That thick car grease is mouth torture and looks like tar!
