Legendary hip-hop mogul’s (54) sudden death leaves fans in shock

The unexpected passing of a well-known figure in the music industry has left fans and colleagues alike stunned.

While the details surrounding his death remain unclear, recent events paint a picture of a life marked by both triumph and struggle.

As the news continues to unfold, the impact of his legacy is becoming even more apparent.

Irv Gotti, the founder of Murder Inc. records, passed away on 5 February at the age of 54.

The news was confirmed by the Hollywood Reporter and a source close to the music producer.

Representatives for Gotti were not immediately available for comment.

His death came months after he reportedly suffered a stroke in 2024 and was admitted to a recovery centre, as shared by Wack100 in August.

Wack100 also claimed to have received a photo of Gotti using a cane and noted that he had ‘lost a lot of weight’.

However, Gotti’s rep clarified that he had been struggling with diabetes for years, which led to a minor stroke over six months ago.

The representative added: ‘He has since changed his diet to eating more healthy.’

They further confirmed that Gotti had ‘been successful in making a full recovery’ and was ‘not in a rehab facility’, but instead ‘at home with his family, enjoying life.’

In August 2023, during an appearance on the Drink Champs podcast, Gotti discussed his health struggles.

He shared that his diabetes had started ‘deteriorating’ his body and admitted that he had not been consistent with taking his insulin, despite having the condition ‘forever.’

Gotti explained: ‘It’s hereditary.’

He was behind numerous hits, including ‘Always On Time’, ‘I’m Real’, ‘Ain’t It Funny’, ‘Foolish’, ‘Rain on Me’, and ‘Mesmerize’.

Gotti also contributed to tracks by DMX, Jennifer Lopez, Kanye West, Memphis Bleek, Fat Joe, and Christina Milian.

He even produced ‘Can I Live’ on Jay-Z’s debut album Reasonable Doubt.

Gotti was married to Debbie Lorenzo from the early 2000s until their divorce in 2013.
