Latest iPhone alarm bug is causing chaos–here’s how to avoid it

A new issue has surfaced for iPhone users, leaving many frustrated and scrambling for answers.

What was once thought to be a solved problem is now causing disruptions in a way that no one could have predicted.

As complaints pour in, the situation is raising questions about the reliability of Apple's alarm app, and the fixes that should have been in place by now.

For those relying on alarms to alert them about appointments, medications, or important daily tasks, this issue could have serious consequences.

The issue resurfaced last week, months after Apple promised to resolve a similar problem caused by a software bug.

A user shared an image of their alarm ringing at 12.42am, although it was set for 10.30am, and posted it to social media, which sparked a flurry of comments from other affected iPhone users.

‘My 10.30am sleep alarm rang at 12.42am instead,’ wrote the user, along with the image showing a clear time difference between the alarm and their Apple Watch.

Frustration grew as other users chimed in with their experiences, such as another who noted: ‘Mine rang 27 minutes late the other week, too. Very odd.’

‘I woke up two hours late for work,’ shared another user, explaining that their alarm simply never went off.

Meanwhile, others vented on social media about the recurring issue.

‘Apple hasn’t solved their alarm problems,’ one frustrated user tweeted on social media.

‘I phone just picks days when it works and days when it doesn’t, despite no settings changes,’ added another on social media.

The glitch has affected users across all iOS 18 updates, with one social media user noting: ‘I pray this never happens to me.’

The discussion also led some to reflect on their own experiences, with one writing: ‘I had a 6.30 alarm go off at 1.15 last week, and I thought maybe I set it wrong. Now I’m beginning to wonder.’

Another user shared: ‘I overslept today for work and was pissed. Started driving to work (and) as I got there late, my alarms started going off. I thought I set the wrong ones, but maybe not then.’

Apple had previously acknowledged the issue in April, stating it was aware of alarms not playing the expected sound and was working on a fix.

Users took matters into their own hands, finding workarounds such as turning off Attention Awareness Features in Face ID & Passcode settings.

Last week, iPhone users suggested further fixes, including ticking off scheduled reminders and restarting their phones.

Others recommended third-party alarm apps as a potential solution.

Some users even decided to rely on a physical alarm clock, with one sharing: ‘I literally bought a physical alarm clock after I missed an important exam bc of this stupid issue.’

‘Honestly, I always have a cheap bedside alarm clock as a backup,’ said another. ‘That cheap thing has never failed me.’
