Kochie reveals a 'life-changing' tip from Sunrise that transformed his love life

The beloved Aussie TV veteran, David Koch, has been gracing our screens for two decades as co-host on Sunrise. Over the years, he's chatted with countless experts, celebrities, and industry leaders, picking up 'life-changing' advice and tips along the way.

In a recent catch-up, Kochie brought up some memorable moments from his time on the show, including instances that had a lasting impact on him. He particularly remembers a profound conversation with the famous Australian supermodel Jennifer Hawkins.

This conversation revolved around relationships, more specifically, the way men compliment women. Hawkins pointed out that a lot of men stumble when it comes to giving meaningful compliments.

Their attention often gets drawn to the most visible parts of a woman's appearance, and they end up saying something like, 'I like that dress.' However, Kochie came to realise such compliments, while easy to give, lack sincerity and depth.

Hawkins urged Kochie to concentrate more on the subtle details. She said, ‘If you say, “I love the way your earrings match your handbag”, then your significant other will think, “Oh, they're really noticing.''’ Taking Hawkins' words to heart, Kochie started giving his wife, Libby, more specific and heartfelt compliments.

Libby, somewhat surprised at first, queried him, ‘Who have you been talking to?’ But as most of us are aware, being mindful of the little things in our relationships can bring about a significant change.

This insight became a part of Kochie, and he was able to witness the charm of this approach firsthand when he met Matt Damon. 'A couple of months after (Jennifer Hawkins’ tip), I was interviewing Matt Damon,' the outgoing host details. 'We sat down for the interview and he goes ‘I love your boots’, and I thought, ‘There you go!’' The actor was in Australia for the promotion of his Bourne Identity films.

In addition to Kochie's appreciation for small compliments, there are plenty of other small gestures that can make a significant impact on a relationship:

  • Acts of kindness and thoughtfulness can strengthen the bond between two people in remarkable ways.
  • Leaving a sweet note for your partner before heading off to work or the shops can brighten their day and remind them of your love.
  • Offering assistance with tasks, such as household chores or picking up groceries, shows support and reliability.
  • Taking the time to listen and be present in conversations with your partner solidifies a strong connection.
  • Surprising your partner with their favourite treat or planning a date night can reignite the spark in your relationship and create lasting memories.

I was taught by my mother to look at people you're talking to and find something about them you honestly like and mention that to them but it must be sincere. I have been doing this ever since. You end up making 2 people happy, them and you :)
