Kmart, Target pull out popular first aid tool from stores

A first-aid kit is a must-have for every home.

With this kit comes emergency medicine, treatments, and tools to alleviate any pain before seeking medical attention.

For homeowners who have several first-aid tools from Kmart or Target, it’s time to take a closer look at your first-aid kits.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) issued an urgent recall for the Anko Heat Elbow Wrap sold across Kmart and Target stores nationwide.

The Anko Heat Elbow Wrap is a rechargeable heat pad that can soothe sore elbow joints.

However, the ACCC warned that the product could cause serious injuries.

‘The elbow wrap can overheat if it is positioned incorrectly or it is wrapped around too tight on the elbow,’ the official recall notice read.

This risk is even greater for people with heat sensitivity.

Alarmingly, the recall notice confirms that injuries have already occurred as a result of this product.

Heated wraps and pads are great for aching joints and muscles, especially for seniors.

However, they do come with risks, especially if not used as directed.

Overheating, electrical faults, and improper use could all lead to burns or even fires.

For those who purchased the said elbow wrap from either retailer, it’s time to check if the purchased item was part of the recall.

The affected Anko Heat Elbow Wraps were sold both in-store and online at Kmart and Target stores between 1 January and 4 April.

The ACCC advised to stop using the heated elbow wrap immediately.

Customers may return the wrap to the place of purchase for a full refund, with or without the receipt.

Was the elbow wrap given as a gift? The ACCC also urged everyone to notify the receiver about the recall.

Individuals who suffered burns or injuries from the said product should seek medical attention immediately.

Similar incidents can also be reported to the ACCC.

For more information about the product recall, customers may call Kmart at 1800 124 125.

Customers may also reach Target Australia at 1300 753 567 for further instructions and concerns.
