Kmart shopper trends after sharing her ‘gorgeous’ buffet upcycle - “Seriously... some ladies are just so talented”

Take notes, interior decor fans! A Queensland mum-of-three, Sara Horne, caught the attention of thousands after sharing a jaw-dropping buffet upcycle that’s so sophisticated, you’ll be inspired to kickstart a furniture makeover project of your own too!

“Handles from Kmart; paint Dulux Misty Moss (previously a grey). A whitewash on top of the bench after sanding and the plant from Woolworths.” she captioned her Facebook post.

Fellow members of the Kmart Hacks and Decor Facebook group raved over the project’s end result, flocking to the comments to praise the creative mum.

“You have done an awesome job. I love it!” one person wrote.

“This is beautiful, love the colour pallet you have chosen!” another user added, while a third said: "Seriously... some ladies are just so talented."

Because several users in the comments asked what she used to achieve the overall look, Sara responded with a brief explanation of the process saying: “I whitewashed [the top] first, then put a clear over it. I sanded parts after whitewashing, so it wasn't too blocky with steel wool and wiped down before applying the clear varnish."

“I have the same hutch and was thinking of selling it but after seeing this, maybe not!” another group member wrote.

This isn't the first time Sara has had a go at upcycling furniture.

“I often restore furniture, but haven't had the time of late, as I'm studying at uni full-time and working full-time” she explained.

However, upon seeing a buffet she had not used for more than a year, she decided it was time to give it a well-deserved ‘glow up’.

"I needed to relocate the buffet, so I decided to give it a facelift," she said. "I saw the colour on a friend's Facebook post.”

"She painted a wall in Misty Moss and I had a few greens in mind. Originally, I was going to paint it an emerald green, but the lighter colour suited the handles better and I just went for it.”

"I knew I wanted to whitewash the top, as the pine had aged. I played around with that until I liked it and then sealed it with a satin clear."

Sara shared that she was delighted with the end result.

"It turned out even better than I expected, but I never expected so many likes and comments on my post," Sara said. "It was a nice surprise and just further affirmed that what I liked was a good thing."

And just like that, Sara already has her next project in the making.

“This is my next project.” she revealed in the comments alongside a picture of an outdated dresser.

I admire people for creating lovely upcycles, but I prefer natural wood.
