Kmart dupe has customers swooning: Hydrate in style for just $15!

We all know how important it is to stay hydrated, especially in summer.

But who says you can’t look stylish while you’re at it?

Thanks to Kmart, you can now get designer style without the designer price tag — at least, according to some parents!

One mum took to a popular Facebook page to rave about Kmart’s ace insulated stainless steel water bottles.

At just $15, this bargain buy which comes in multiple colours including slate, fluro pink, olive, and coral apparently looks and performs just as good as the designer version and is guaranteed to keep your cold drinks icy for hours.

'Put ice in at 3:30pm and it’s still frozen now (at 10:53pm),’ she excitedly shared. ‘(The ice) hasn’t even started to melt, plus the bonus of no condensation on the outside of the bottle.'

‘(It) might be a good way to keep the kids’ drinks cold in this hot weather. (i) have also used (it) for water and have had no leaks.’

It also seems that the mum put the Kmart insulated water bottle to the test by leaving the ice in the bottle overnight — and proudly shared that the ice cubes were apparently still frozen the next morning.

Naturally, other parents came forward and shared their appreciation for what some called a ‘Poor man’s Frank Green’ in reference to the sustainable brand’s rather pricier drinking bottle alternatives.

The lowest price going for Frank Green reusable drinking bottles is $39.95, a cursory glance at their website reveals.

Another mum said: ’My kids take theirs to school. I put cold water and some ice cubes in and it’s still icy cold when they get home.’

‘Plus bonus this afternoon, we went for a three-hour drive straight from school to Gold Coast and it was still good. And yes, no condensation.’

‘I’ve been looking for an insulated straw bottle for ages that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg! It’s so good,’ another added.

Now, it might not be the first time you’ve heard of bottles that keep hot or cold drinks, well, hot and cold for a long time.

So how do they work, exactly?

Well, insulated bottles like that of Kmart and Frank Green are designed to limit temperature changes as much as possible.

This happens by essentially placing a bottle inside another bottle and vacuuming the air out in between the two, which limits the transfer of heat and coldness from the inner bottle to the outer bottle.

Of course, it’s not entirely foolproof since if enough hours pass one would find that drinks do change temperatures overall.

On another note, reusable bottles are also great environmentally friendly options for staying hydrated.

Every year, an estimated 373 million tons of plastic water bottles end up in our oceans and landfills, wreaking havoc on our ecosystem.

In terms of energy and resources, manufacturing plastic bottles is an extensive process involving crude oil and other chemicals. Not only is it a drain on resources, but the toxic chemicals in the plastic can escape into the environment when disposed of.

Moreover, the recycling process for plastic bottles can also be complex and tedious, and much of the plastic waste ends up not being recycled.

This is why despite being more costly, some people are investing in reusable bottles as they do in a way offset the negative effects of patronising plastic water bottles.
