KFC forced to 'swap ingredients' after floods trigger supply shortage

Some of you may have noticed a change in the appearance or the taste of your usual KFC order in recent weeks. The fast-food restaurant, it turns out, revealed that they were experiencing supply chain disruptions.

The renowned restaurant chain recently informed its customers about the limited availability of lettuce by publishing an updated menu on its official website.

According to a statement released by KFC, the recent flooding that occurred in Queensland and New South Wales is to blame, and this may have an effect on burgers such as the popular Zinger.

As a result of the shortage, customers in New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, the Australian Capital Territory, and Tasmania have been informed that their meals may contain a "temporary blend" of lettuce and cabbage.

However, customers who do not prefer the veggie have the option to personalise their meals by omitting the lettuce from the recipe.

"We've hit a bit of an iceberg," KFC wittily said on its website, "and are currently experiencing some lettuce supply chain disruptions."

"We're working with our various suppliers to provide assistance, but we expect the disruptions to continue in the coming days."

"Apologies for any inconvenience caused. We appreciate you all being Little Gems as we work to get things back to normal ASAP."

Naturally, Aussies have reacted to this 'slight' change in one of KFC's most popular meals. In a post on the popular forum site Reddit, hundreds of users shared their thoughts about the recent announcement.

"First avocado, now lettuce. Salads are starting to look very expensive," wrote one user in the comments, with another agreeing and adding, "They come for the zinger?! This inflation sh*t just got serious!"

One man even joked, "No longer is the supply crisis only affecting the ruling class of homeowners. But now the common working-class man who is simply trying to cleanse his body after a night of 18 Jack Daniels must also suffer."

Others, however, seemed like they prefer the new cabbage and lettuce blend. One user said they honestly enjoyed the added crunch of the cabbage. A second one commented and added, "I too loved it. Hope they keep it. Eat more cabbage!"

Grocery prices have risen since the floods, with one woman sharing that she paid $12 for a single piece of iceberg lettuce and $20 for a punnet of blueberries at a Queensland IGA supermarket.

Woolworths informed its customers of a seasonal update and made them aware that the company was also experiencing a slight disruption with the availability of certain vegetables. These vegetables included Lebanese cucumbers, kale, fresh herbs, zucchini, beans, tomatoes, capsicum, berries, broccoli, and spinach.

"Due to the QLD and NSW floods, we're still seeing sporadic supply across kale, silverbeet, and Asian veg – this should improve over the coming weeks," says the Woolies website.

"We are seeing an impact with supply due to the poor weather conditions in recent weeks. We're working with growers to improve things, and we expect to see results in the next three weeks."

I didn't mind the cabbage/lettuce combo at all in my Zinger burger. People have got to realise if you can't get what you want you have to make do with what's available.

An ex-business student of mine travelled to America and was told by KFC, when he tried to order a bucket of chicken, that they didn't sell chicken pieces, only burgers etc. Apparently this was in the state where Kentucky Fried Chicken was started by the Colonel. Unbelievable! Anyone else have this experience?
