It tasted like 'Christmas', but it’s not even July—this treat brings back memories in every bite

New product launches often bring a mix of excitement and surprise, especially when they come with high praise.

Sometimes, what’s expected isn’t quite what you get, sparking curiosity and debate among taste testers.

This latest offering from a major retailer has already captured attention—but for reasons you might not expect.

Woolworths introduced a new dessert that has been winning over taste testers with its rich flavours and creamy texture.

The Gingerbread Pudding 2 pack, priced at $9, offers two puddings for $4.50 each, topped with white chocolate flakes and served with a luscious dulce de leche sauce.

Despite its name, the dessert’s flavour profile sparked some unexpected reactions from those who tried it.

Nick Vavitis, known for his taste testing videos on social media, shared his thoughts after sampling the pudding.

He admitted he enjoyed the dessert immensely but felt the caramel notes were far stronger than the gingerbread

He said: ‘It was very ‘caramelly’—between the dulce swirl and the caramelised taste from being baked, you could’ve fooled me, I thought it was caramel pudding.’

He revealed his favourite components were the dulce de leche swirl and the white chocolate flakes, describing them as his ‘two favourite flavour profiles.’

However, Nick found the timing of the release somewhat puzzling.

He said: ‘[It feels like a] strange time of the year to release it? I felt very Christmasy eating this, it almost confused me.’

Nick also wished the gingerbread flavour had been a little more pronounced, adding: ‘The caramel was definitely overpowering it.’

Despite this, he was far from disappointed by the dominant caramel taste, joking: ‘I will definitely be pudding this in my shopping basket again soon.’

In his video on social media, Nick noted that while the packaging recommended heating the pudding, he tried it cold during a quick taste test.

‘I just got absolutely bashed in the face with caramel,’ he joked.

‘It probably is a good idea to heat these up, but I'm in the car, so who cares? It's very, very, very rich in the caramel.’

He praised the pudding base for its caramelised flavour, which he wasn’t sure came from cooking or the ingredients, and called the dulce de leche topping ‘really, really sweet, which I love.’

Nick continued: ‘I actually feel like it's everything that I like in a dessert all in one, it's super, super sweet—if you don't like super sweet stuff, you might not like it.

For me, personally, the white chocolate toppings on the top make the caramel and the actual pudding sweeter, I like it.’

Nick’s followers were quick to respond, including a Woolworths bakery worker who said: ‘I work in the bakery and legit just put these out today with the new choc hazelnut ones.’

‘I don’t like gingerbread flavour so I might actually try these now as I love caramel.’

When another follower asked: ‘So caramel pudding, not gingerbread?’

Nick replied simply: ‘Basically.’

A third fan added: ‘Nah I'm sure that would taste better heated up...and with ice cream.’

In a previous story, shoppers rushed to get their hands on a $4.99 buy that brought back a beloved trend.

Soon they will have Easter Eggs and hot cross buns and more gingerbread items all year round so Easter and Christmas won’t be that special anymore
I don’t associate gingerbread with Xmas necessarily. Besides, it sounds like it’s more of an overly sweet caramel dessert.

What about ginger nut biscuits? They’re available all year round and rightly so.

Correct!

Why all the hype about Easter eggs and hot cross buns, Christmas ham and turkey?

What does the cross on a fruit bun mean? Bugger all! Why does chocolate in the shape of a hollow football make it any different to a block of Cadbury's chocolate? You can purchase ham and turkey in various forms all year round, so why the distinction at Christmas time?

Hype for the sake of some religion perpetrated myth.

Woolies talk about the savings they give us but never about the savings they make by closing the express lanes at Coffs Harbour doing away with three checkout operators and causing people with one or two items to wait behind people with a trolley full of items.
