'It looks great!': Mum showcases her dessert game with creative Coles Mud Cake transformation

In the world of creative confectionery, it's not just the professional bakers who can whip up a storm in the kitchen.

Sometimes, the most ingenious and delightful creations could come from the everyday shopper with a flair for innovation.

This is precisely the case with a mum who created a 'finger-lickin' good' birthday cake, all made within a reasonable price.

A mum showed her ingenuity by creating a KFC-themed birthday cake.

The cake, which garnered applause from dessert enthusiasts and KFC lovers, used two Coles Bakery Mud Cakes as its base.

With a touch of culinary creativity, she transformed the humble mud cakes into a mouth-watering masterpiece that mimics the iconic KFC bucket.

After stacking the mud cakes, the home baker applied a generous layer of vanilla frosting, creating a smooth canvas reminiscent of the Colonel's secret recipe bucket.

To achieve the signature KFC look, she used strips of red fondant around the sides of the cake, emulating the fast-food's familiar branding.

To top it all off, she also created some 'chicken tenders' using cleverly shaped pieces of mud cake.

The 'tenders' were dipped in melted Caramilk chocolate and then coated with Crunchy Nut Corn Flakes for a perfectly crispy finish.

'What 18-year-old doesn't like KFC?' she wrote in a post that took social media by storm.

The response was overwhelming, with social media users flocking to the comments section to express their admiration for the cake and the delectable 'chicken tenders'.

'Fabulous! I'd be disappointed if it's not chicken! It looks great,' one commented.

'You just gave me a great idea for my son's birthday!' a second exclaimed.

'I'm a vegetarian, but that chicken looks good to me,' a third remarked.

The creativity did not stop with one shopper.

Another Coles customer shared their take on a themed birthday cake—this time featuring the popular children's character, Bluey.

Using the same $6.40 Coles mud cakes, the baker added a twist with a custard-type filling made from Cottee's Instant Vanilla Pudding mix.

To top the cake off, the baker decorated the cake with pink icing and several Bluey toys.

These inventive cakes were a testament that people do not need to spend a fortune to enjoy a custom dessert.

With a bit of imagination and a trip to Coles, anyone can transform a simple supermarket cake into a show-stopping centrepiece for any celebration.

So, why not take a leaf out of these savvy shoppers' books and try your hand at cake decorating for your grandkids' birthday?

It's a fun, cost-effective way to bring a smile to your loved ones' faces and to serve up a slice of joy without breaking the bank.
