Is your Kia in danger? Thousands recalled over engine malfunction fears

The news that thousands of Kia cars have been recalled has launched a wave of worry among vehicle owners in Australia.

The specific models included are the SL Sportage, YD Cerato, and XM Sorento, sold between 2011 and 2015.

According to the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts, a staggering 5069 cars have been recalled over this critical fault which can occur if the cars are continually run without proper inspection.

‘The engine may exhibit abnormal noise and potentially seize,’ the department explained. ‘This may cause a sudden loss of motive power and/or a vehicle fire.’

They warned that the resulting malfunction could be fatal.

‘(It) could increase the potential risk of an accident, causing serious injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users, bystanders and/or damage to property,’ it continued.

Can't anyone build a decent car anymore, these days? Too much digital technology and not enough common-sense engineering.

Has anyone else heard about that freighter carrying 2 500 EVs that caught fire because something went wrong with some car's batteries? Lithium- iron I believe. Sounds like the old German magnesium oxide/ iron oxide thermite bombs dropped on the UK between 1939-1945.
