Is your favourite chocolate secretly causing allergies? Find out which popular brand has been recalled!

In the confectionery realm, where life's small pleasures and casual afternoon tea breaks reside, an alarming situation is unfolding.

A well-known chocolate brand has faced a product recall due to an unforeseen issue.

The chocolates in question are Mondelez Cote D’Bouchee 200g boxes.

These have been distributed throughout the country, occupying the shelves of Woolworths, and Coles, as well as independent and specialty food retailers.

The main issue at hand pertains to an unfortunate packaging error rather than the flavour of the chocolate.

Unfortunately, the packaging failed to indicate the presence of allergens such as milk, hazelnuts, almonds, soy, and wheat due to non-English labelling.

Although it may seem harmless to some, the packaging error raises concerns as individuals with allergies may unknowingly consume the product, potentially triggering reactions in those with milk, hazelnut, almond, soy, or wheat allergies.

This issue affects all batches of the 200g product from Slovakia.

To ensure safety, consumers who have a milk, hazelnut, almond, soy, or wheat allergy or intolerance are strongly advised against consuming this product.

Instead, they should promptly return the products to the place of purchase and request a full refund. Taking these precautions will help safeguard their well-being.

Key Takeaways
  • A popular chocolate brand has issued a recall due to a labelling error.
  • The chocolate, sold in Woolworths and Coles stores and independent and specialty food retailers, has allergens, including milk, hazelnuts, almonds, soy, and wheat, not listed due to non-English labelling.
  • There is potential for those with allergies to these ingredients to have a reaction if the product is consumed.
  • Consumers who have any of these allergies or intolerances are advised not to consume the product and to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Inaccurate food labelling is far from a minor inconvenience. On the contrary, it poses a significant risk that inadvertently compromises public health.

Some may wonder, ‘How bad could it be?’ The inconvenient truth is that even a small allergen surprise hidden within a chocolaty exterior can lead to reactions ranging from mild irritations to severe, life-threatening anaphylaxis.

Understanding and accurately reading food labels are not exclusive to the health-conscious or those following the latest superfood trends.

The unfortunate incident with the Slovakian chocolate mishap sheds light on the importance of accurate food labelling.

It is crucial that we shift our perspective and turn seemingly ordinary purchases into well-informed decisions, demanding transparency and accountability from food manufacturers.

The welfare and safety of consumers should never be jeopardised for the sake of convenience or oversight.

Never seen or heard of THAT chocolate before!!! And i'm a choco-holic that tries every new choc or lolly out and usually shop at both woollies and coles as Aldi is too hard for me to get too.

But i do agree the allergies on food labels need to be more accurate as do proper ingredient/additive lists.

I don't think I have heard of it either and I too am a chocoholic.

My 3 year old grandson had an anaphylactic reaction to a vegan donut on Sunday , we found out it must have been cross contaminated with a normal one. He has dairy allergies .

He was taken via ambulance to hospital and they had to administer three adrenalin shots.

Allergies can be life threatening.

With these chocolates can we really trust something made in Slovakia , they have complete different food standards to us 🤔

I have never heard or seen this chocolate on the shelves at my local supermarket. I agree there should be more checks done on imported products. I am also concerned re GMO products that are suppose to be marked but I have never seen any that has GMO ingredients and find that hard to belief when we have so many imports. Now they are talking about adding other chemicals to fruit & vegies in USA. We just can't trust what we are eating these days unless we grow ourselves.
