Is this the most expensive pizza ever? A local restaurant has the answer

A local restaurant has sparked a heated debate with a decision that’s both bold and controversial.

What started as a quirky menu item has now become a source of intense conversation.

The story behind this unexpected move raises questions about food trends, customer loyalty, and just how far a business is willing to go to stand by its principles.

A pizzeria in Norwich had its customers put their dough where their mouth was when it came to Hawaiian pizza – charging a hefty £100 for a ham and pineapple-topped pie.

Lupa Pizza, known for its strong stance against the controversial topping, reluctantly added the Hawaiian to their delivery menu, but with the eye-watering price tag attached.

The menu description cheekily stated: ‘Yeah, for £100 you can have it. Order the champagne too! Go on you Monster!’

Co-owner Francis Woolf expressed his disdain, saying: ‘I absolutely loathe pineapple on a pizza.’

Head chef Quin Jianoran echoed his sentiments, adding: ‘I love a pina colada, but pineapple on pizza? Never. I’d rather put a bloody strawberry on one than that tropical menace.’

A 2017 YouGov poll explored the UK’s opinion on the matter.

While 84 per cent of Britons enjoyed pizza and 82 per cent liked pineapple, only 53 per cent could stomach the combination of pineapple on pizza.

A whopping 41 per cent of Brits disliked it altogether.

The invention of the Hawaiian pizza is often attributed to Sam Panopoulos, a Greek immigrant who moved to Canada in 1954.

He ran restaurants in Ontario with his brothers and began adding pineapple to his pizzas in the 1960s, naming it after the brand of tinned pineapple he used.

The debate surrounding pineapple on pizza reached new heights in 2017 when the president of Iceland had to clarify he wouldn’t ban it after stating at a high school that he was ‘fundamentally opposed’ to the topping.
