Is this $9 Kmart bathroom item worth the hype or a hard pass?

When it comes to staying organised at home, Kmart has long been everyone’s go-to for low-cost storage solutions. You can find everything–from drawers and cabinets to clever fabric organisers that promise to control even the messiest situation.

Recently, one woman called attention to another Kmart buy: two clear shelving units she spruced up her ensuite bathroom with.

The woman took to social media to showcase the product and how to install it. She mentioned that the transparent shelves only cost $9.

The installation process is deceptively simple: assemble the shelves using the included hardware and then attach the unit to the wall with adhesive backing.

Ensuring the shelves are spaced correctly, the woman placed a tall skincare product between them during the installation.

She adds that the shelves are hardy enough to support up to 3kg each, and once you attach it to the wall, you should let it set for 24 hours before loading it up with items.

In no time, her ample skincare products, perfume, and makeup–along with her husband’s aftershave–were neatly arranged. She aimed to free up some precious bench space in their ensuite bathroom.

Overall, the results were impressive, but this product recommendation didn't sit right with everyone.

Her post sparked a lot of conversation in the comments section. While some are praising the transformation, there are those who expressed their preference for her previous shelving unit.

One user wrote, ‘I like the first one because so much easier when it comes to cleaning and dust.’

‘That chunky unit was easier to keep things clean, though. It had a lid,’ a second person said.

The conversation also touched on the advantages and drawbacks of adhesive shelves.

‘I love these but I wish you could purchase the adhesives separately. I moved mine and now it won’t restick and I don’t really want to buy another one’, another customer shared.

A fourth user also mentioned their experience, ‘Mine didn’t last and pulled the paint off my wall’, to which the woman responded, ‘Oh no! I thought it was just for tiles or mirrors’

The main argument against the adhesive shelving unit was that, over time, the heat of the bathroom and the summer months could cause it to weaken and unstick from the wall.

Not to mention that adhesive shelving solutions in general can sometimes be flimsy to hold heavier toiletry items.

There were also comments about keeping her products in the cupboard, but the woman said she preferred to have ‘everyday items within easy reach’.

The woman defended her choice and said, ‘Now I am loving the extra bench space!’

She also disproved the weakness of the adhesive with an update: ‘It’s been 2 weeks now and it’s still up!’

Much prefer the shelf look, so much tidier and clean looking. Glad you got rid of the “caddy” cluttered, hard to find what you are looking for!!
Good on you girl 😊

Yes, it looks great, but a word of warning
.I bought a very similar item, with adhesive back. Two weeks is nowhere near enough time.
Mine came crashing down after about 3months, talk about a mess, not to mention 2 smashed bottles of very expensive perfume and chipped floor tiles.
Certainly wouldn't recommend them.
A friend stuck hers up with liquid nails, but obviously you can see the blobs of glue, yuck.
Better to put shelves up with screws, cheaper in the long run, as I found out

What's wrong with keeping that stuff in drawers out of sight? Those shelves look like display shelves in a shop.

She will find out soon enough if the shelf is useful. I see it as another dust collector.
