Is Target's new activewear line really a Lululemon killer? I tried it and here's the truth!

In the world of activewear, the name Lululemon has become synonymous with high quality, style, and unfortunately, a high price tag. For many of us, especially those of us enjoying the golden years, splurging on expensive gym gear isn't always a top priority. We want comfort, durability, and affordability, all rolled into one. That's why when Target announced its new Active Studio Soft range, claiming to offer a Lululemon-like experience without the hefty cost, it certainly piqued our interest.

The collection, which includes a variety of pieces from tights to tank tops, is priced between a wallet-friendly $20-$30. But can affordable activewear really stand up to the rigorous demands of our daily routines, from gardening and grandkids to golf and gentle yoga?

As a dedicated member of the Seniors Discount Club, I took it upon myself to investigate. I tried Target's new affordable activewear range, and I'm here to share my honest thoughts with you, my fellow over-60s, who are looking for that perfect blend of comfort and cost-effectiveness.

Target's Active Studio Soft range is designed with low-to-medium impact activities in mind, which suits many of our lifestyles perfectly. Whether it's a morning stretch, a leisurely walk with the dog, or a Pilates class, this range promises to support you through it all. The collection is available in sizes 8 to 18, with plans to introduce size 6 by November 2024, catering to a wide audience.

The pieces are made with a buttery-soft fabric that boasts four-way stretch capabilities, minimal seams, and moisture-wicking technology. This is a big deal because nobody wants to feel restricted or overheated while on the move. The range also features on-trend neutral colours like Oatmilk, Espresso, and Hickory, which are not only stylish but also versatile enough to mix and match with other wardrobe staples.

Carrie Kirkman, General Manager of Merchandise at Target Australia, has expressed confidence in the new line, stating that it's designed to feel like a second skin, offering the right amount of support and stretch for a variety of activities. But does it live up to these claims?

I put the Active Studio Soft range to the test, starting with the Bike Shorts and Ribbed Tank Top, both in Oatmilk. The tank top, with its built-in shelf bra, provided an unexpected lift and support, which is a godsend for women who need a little extra support in that area. The bike shorts were a revelation – they stayed in place during my spin class, and there were no visible panty lines, which is impressive for light-coloured activewear.

To see how the range would fare outside the gym, I paired the set with the Casual Mini Crossbody Bag in Oyster for a walk. The bag was the perfect size for essentials and matched the activewear set beautifully.

Next, I tried the Espresso T-shirt and Flare Pants. The T-shirt's lightweight fabric was a winner during a heated yoga session, and the flares were so comfortable I didn't want to take them off. They're versatile enough to be paired with other casual wear, making them a great addition to any wardrobe.

Overall, I was genuinely impressed with Target's new range. The quality is on par with more expensive brands, and the pieces are stylish enough to transition from the gym to everyday life. As we all know, versatility is key when you're looking for value for money.

So, is Target's new activewear line a Lululemon killer? It might just be. For those of us who prioritize comfort, style, and affordability, Target's Active Studio Soft range is a strong contender. It's proof that you don't have to spend a fortune to feel and look good while staying active.
