IKEA slashes prices on over 700 items in sale—get up to 20% off!

For some, IKEA is synonymous with stylish, affordable home solutions.

In a move that will delight bargain hunters and home decorators alike, the Swedish furniture giant has announced a significant price reduction on more than 700 popular products, with discounts reaching up to 20 per cent!

Starting Tuesday, March 26, savvy shoppers can spruce up their homes for less, as prices on a diverse range of items—from sleek furniture pieces to ambient lighting, cosy textiles, and clever storage solutions—are set to become even more wallet-friendly.

This isn't the first time IKEA has extended a helping hand to consumers grappling with the cost-of-living crisis.

Over the past year, the retail powerhouse says it has reduced the prices of over 2,500 items.

The recent IKEA Life at Home Report sheds light on the economic pressures facing Australians, with 43 per cent citing household finances and disposable income as a top concern and 38 per cent worried about the current state of the economy.

Ainslie Woodham, IKEA Australia's Selling Manager, empathises with the struggles of Australians.

‘We know how tough Australians are doing, the cost of living and affordability is more important than ever as many Australians face rising costs and increased inflation,’ she said.

Woodham reassures customers that IKEA is dedicated to easing this burden where possible.

‘Like most businesses, IKEA has not been immune to rising costs from supply chain and operations—however, as a business we’ve made a commitment to not pass these costs on where possible,’ she added.

Thanks to stabilisation in supply chain costs and improvements in operational efficiency, IKEA can pass on operational cost savings directly to consumers, according to another spokesperson.

Among the products on sale are the KALLAX shelving units, which vary in size and colour.

The most affordable of this storage solution range is a white variant sold for $49, down from $69, and measures 77x77 centimetres.

The LOHALS flatwoven natural rug also dropped to $169 from $199 in the sale. IKEA describes it as ‘Crafted with natural jute in neutral tones that bring a sense of calm to any space.’ They also claim it’s durable and suited for dining areas due to how vacuum-friendly it is.

Those looking for living room sofas may also be interested in the EKTORP 3-seat sofa, which is coloured dark grey and ‘wonderfully thick, comfy cushions’. It’s available for $200 off at $599.

Savvy shoppers who put a premium on their humble abodes understand the importance of stretching dollars further without sacrificing the comfort and aesthetics of living spaces.

But what should seniors keep in mind regarding sales like IKEA’s?

Here is a list of what to consider when buying furniture and other homewares:
  • Comfort: Prioritise comfort over style. Look for furniture with good support, cushioning, and ergonomic designs to support your body properly.
  • Accessibility: Choose furniture and homewares that are easy to use and access, such as adjustable-height tables, chairs with armrests, and grab bars in bathrooms.
  • Safety: Opt for items that are sturdy, stable, and have non-slip features to prevent accidents and injuries.
  • Ease of maintenance: Select items that are easy to clean and maintain, such as washable fabrics, stain-resistant surfaces, and durable materials.
  • Space-saving: Consider space-saving furniture solutions like foldable tables, wall-mounted shelves, and multifunctional pieces to maximise space in smaller living areas.
  • Lightweight: Choose lightweight furniture and homewares that are easy to move and rearrange to accommodate changing needs or preferences.
  • Storage: Look for furniture with built-in storage options like drawers, cabinets, or ottomans with hidden compartments to keep belongings organised and easily accessible.
  • Adaptability: Consider future needs and opt for furniture that can be adapted or modified, such as adjustable beds, lift chairs, or modular seating arrangements.
  • Durability: Invest in high-quality, durable furniture and homewares that can withstand everyday use and last for years without frequent repairs or replacements.
  • Style: While comfort and functionality are important, choose items that also reflect your personal style and preferences to create a comfortable and inviting living space.

Love going around the shop but don't like it when you buy something and get it in a box and have to put it together yourself
The word "service" means nothing these days. I am 74, although there are some things I really could use, I don't purchase anymore, as I am no longer able to construct myself.
