McCaffrey's acting career spanned several decades and mediums, showcasing his versatility and talent.

He first gained recognition in the '90s television series Viper, where he played the driver Joe Astor in the first and last seasons. He then went on to star as Jimmy Keefe in the 2004 drama Rescue Me, a role that earned him critical acclaim.

However, McCaffrey's most iconic role was arguably as the voice of the titular character in the Max Payne video game series.

He first lent his voice to the character in 2001, returning for Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne and the third instalment, Max Payne 3, in 2012.

His gritty, nuanced performance helped shape Max Payne into one of the most memorable characters in video game history.

McCaffrey's voice-acting prowess extended beyond Max Payne. He also voiced characters in the game Alan Wake and was set to return for the 2023 sequel, Alan Wake 2.

In addition to his film and video game credits, McCaffrey guest-starred in several hit shows, including Sex and The City, Suits, Jessica Jones, Blue Bloods, and She's Gotta Have It.

His performances, whether on screen or behind a microphone, were always marked by a unique blend of intensity and subtlety that made him a favourite among audiences.

James McCaffrey's passing is a significant loss to the entertainment industry. His contributions to film, television, and video games have left a lasting legacy that will continue to be celebrated by fans and fellow actors alike.
