Iconic 'Happy Little Vegemites' Jingle Makes Grand Comeback for Vegemite's 100th Birthday Celebration - Here’s How Your Grandkids Can Take Part!

Nothing quite takes us back to the good old days like a classic advertising jingle, and there's one that has stood the test of time – you all know it, 'Happy Little Vegemites’.

Just hearing the tune brings up feelings of nostalgia. Now, this beloved jingle is set to make a grand comeback on our television screens in celebration of the Vegemite company's upcoming 100th birthday on October 25.

Vegemite is issuing a casting call for kids aged six to 12 who’d love to be part of this historic moment to ensure a fresh and updated take on the iconic ad.

As the faces of the new 'Happy Little Vegemites' commercial, they will play a major role in carrying on a cultural trend that originated in the 1950s when television first debuted in Australia.

The original screen ad aired during that time, although the jingle itself had already been played on the radio.

With auditions for the new ad closing at 11:59 pm on May 4, there's just a week left for eager parents and grandparents to show off their child's talents.

If you’re looking to get your grandkids cast for this historic commercial, simply send an email to Studio-P with your child's full name, age, suburb, state, and a recent photo to [email protected].

Vegemite is a staple item in most Australian households, and many of us have grown up with this savoury spread on our toast or sandwiches.

It's a true Aussie icon, and being a part of its story is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the lucky kids who'll reprise the roles in the commercial.

Vegemite has a rich and proud history as a breakfast and sandwich, dating back to the 1920s when Cyril Callister created it for Fred Walker and Company using leftover brewers yeast, salt, celery, and onion.

But did you know the name ‘Vegemite’ was chosen by Fred's daughter Sheilah, who won a naming competition? Though, the new delicacy didn't take off and struggled to compete with rival Marmite.

In fact, Vegemite even changed its name to Parwill (remember their famous slogan ‘if Marmite, Parwill!) for a few years in an attempt to boost sales.

It wasn't until Vegemite was given away with purchases of Kraft cheese that it began to gain popularity.

This clever marketing tactic proved successful, and the British Medical Association even endorsed the spread for its high vitamin B content.

During World War II, Vegemite was included in Australian soldiers' rations and has since become an iconic Australian product, overshadowing its former competitors.

In 2017, Vegemite returned to Australian ownership after being acquired by Bega Cheese.

Haven't seen a Vegemite commercial on for yonks.

I always have Vegemite in my house. I live it on toast with butter and spead very thinly.
I Also like it in a sandwich with Kraft Singles , which is a soft cheese

Out of my 13 kids 5 like Vegemite, hubby hates it.

I think it's an acquired taste

Hated Vegemite, still do.
Hated the commercial, still do.
I'm still puzzling out, though, re the ancient technique of painting Vegemite on the cat's paws when moving into a new house; I've heard the theory plenty of times, but I cannot believe that nobody was ever prosecuted by the RSPCA.....

I have loved Vegemite since I first came to Australia in1965 . I have It on toast most mornings. My favourite way to eat it is in a fresh roll with plenty of real butter.
