Iconic Aussie restaurant announces hot comeback in one-night-only pop-up event

When we see beloved establishments close their doors, we look back at the memories we made with them—may it be through the food we ate or the times we hung out in their stores.

For those who miss the sizzle of steaks and the comfort of a warm cheese toast, a beloved icon from the 90s announced a comeback and served a piece of nostalgia.

Iconic restaurant Sizzler announced a grand yet brief comeback with a Brisbane pop-up event, stirring up a hearty serving of nostalgia among its fans.

Brisbane radio hosts Robin Bailey and Kip Wightman decided to launch the one-night-only event.

The event followed the triumphant return of Sizzler's cheese toast at Brisbane-based restaurant Fritzenberger after buying an original Sizzler cheese toast machine.

The pop-up also collaborated with The Coffee Club and saw original Sizzler staff members don their uniforms once again to serve up those fan-favourite dishes, such as their iconic cheese toasts, pumpkin soup, and potato skins.

The signature salad buffet and dessert bar also made an appearance, complete with a soft-serve ice cream machine and an array of toppings to satisfy every sweet tooth.

It's a trip down memory lane that promises to be as delicious as it is sentimental.

Sizzler fans expressed their excitement on social media and longed for a seat at this exclusive event.

'I miss Sizzler,' exclaimed one user, echoing the sentiments of many who had fond memories of the restaurant.

Sizzler first made its mark on the Australian dining scene 39 years ago, with its first restaurant in Annerley.

The chain boasted 83 locations nationwide and became a staple for diners who enjoyed control over their dining experience.

However, as the years went by, Sizzler's fire began to wane, and restaurants across the country started to close.

The final nine locations in Queensland, Western Australia, and New South Wales eventually closed down due to the impact of COVID-19.

Thanks to the pop-up event, Sizzler's spirit stayed alive and well in Brisbane.

Fans relived the glory days of the restaurant and introduced the iconic dishes to a new generation of Australian food lovers.
