Husband-to-be sends another man to his own wedding in bizarre twist - and the internet is losing it!

Wedding ceremonies are one of the most anticipated moments in many people's lives. They are a time when families and friends come together to celebrate the union of two people in love. The ceremony is often the most memorable part of the wedding day, and it is a time for couples to exchange vows and make a commitment to each other.

Wedding ceremonies are a time-honoured tradition that is steeped in meaning and symbolism. Couples who are planning their wedding ceremony take the time to choose a venue and officiant that will make the day special and memorable.

In fact, we previously reported how some couples even spent a fortune just to make sure that their special day is one for the books. You can read more about that here.

While a lot of couples want their weddings to be memorable in the best way possible, what if we tell you that one ceremony made the headlines after the groom sent out a ‘replacement’ groom during his own wedding?

No need to take a double look, folks! Football player Mohamed Buya Turay, who had to skip his own wedding, explained how he gave his brother the responsibility of standing in for him at the altar.

The 27-year-old athlete said that he had to finalise his new contract with Swedish football club Malmo and had to fly to Sweden on July 22, leaving him with no choice but to miss his own wedding with his bride Suad Baydoun.

Mohamed then ultimately decided to have his brother walk down the aisle with his bride in Sierra Leone rather than postponing the special day.

Sharing his story with Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet, the athlete said: 'I was not there because Malmo asked me to arrive earlier.'

The groom also claimed that despite missing the ceremony, they had already taken wedding photos since he knew he needed to be in the Nordic country for pre-season training.

He noted: 'So it looks like I was there but I wasn’t. My brother had to represent me at the wedding itself.' It certainly has us wondering how the wedding is legal–didn’t she technically marry his brother?

The footie player also disclosed he hasn't been reunited with his wife since joining Malmo and after spending two seasons in China.

'I will try to get her to Sweden and Malmo now so she can be close to me. She will live here with me,' he added.

'(But) first, we have to win the league and then I go on my honeymoon.'

Mohamed also took to social media to announce his wedding with Suad on the day of the ceremony, sharing some of their wedding photos on his official Twitter page.

'I married my sweetheart, wife and my best friend today,' he wrote in his post.

'What an amazing human being! And what a blessing! I can’t wait to enjoy life with you together.'

His absence from his own nuptial has stirred controversy on the internet, with several people claiming that they 'couldn't wrap' their heads around his brother attending the wedding in his place.

Others questioned why the football club was not considerate enough to move Turay's contract signing to at least let him attend his own special day, while some pointed out that the couple should've just had their wedding 'postponed'.

Despite the negative comments, many fans rejoiced that Turay was finally able to tie the knot with his beloved partner.

'People should mind their own business. Congratulations Turay, may you and your wife be blessed,' one fan said.

While we do not know the full details behind this story and what factors were at play when Turay did the strange decision, we wish the couple a happy married life.

Whatever floats your boat wow.!@#$%;

Marriage by proxy was quite common for Italians who moved to Australia. A young unmarried woman wasn't allowed to travel alone to join her fiance in Australia. Instead his brother in Italy would stand in for him and then, as a married woman, she could come to Australia to be with her husband.
