HOW TO RECYCLE YOUR OLD GLASSES
Wondering what to do with those old glasses once we no longer need them? Maybe we have an updated prescription and the old ones no longer suit us. Whatever the reason, we would like to find a new home for them where they can give better sight to someone in need.
You can donate your old glasses to the Lions organisation. Their Recycle for Sight program sends almost half a million pairs of recycled glasses to developing countries every year. They ask that you do not send the case, just the glasses. Wrap them in bubble wrap, put them in a padded post bag and send them to:
Lions Recycle for Sight Australia Inc
PO Box 3021
Clontarf MDC, Queensland, 4019.
Any HCF branch can accept glasses. They forward the glasses to the Lions Recycle program.
Specsavers have a glasses recycling program. Most of their stores can accept your old glasses.
Check with your local optometrist to ask if they have a recycling program.
You can also donate them to an op shop where customers can try them on to see if the prescription suits them.
If your glasses simply need repair, your local optometrist can help. If you want to try repairing them yourself, check out some instructional videos on www.youtube.com.
Get rid of some clutter and recycle usable items while at the same time helping someone else improve their life. All good!
