How to pull out the ‘vein’ from a prawn MESS-FREE and in a blink of an eye with just one common kitchen item!

Prawns, no matter what method they are cooked, are at the top of our list when it comes to the most delicious tasting food items. The only problem with eating them is the painstakingly tedious preparation you’ll have to face before plopping them on a BBQ or in a pan.
If you ever wanted to test your patience, a good way to do it would be to attempt peeling and de-veining dozens of prawns – just the mere thought of it is sufficient to get on my poor nerves.
With the vast supply of cooking, cleaning, and home hacks scattered all over the internet, someone out there MUST already know the secret to quickly cleaning prawns at this point, right? The answer is yes!
One foodie unveiled how he easily ‘de-veins’ prawns and all you need to get your hands on is a common household item that’s most likely sitting gingerly in one of your cupboards: a toothpick.

“This hack makes cleaning prawns so much easier!” said Adrian Widgy, also known on TikTok and Instagram as ‘Places in Sydney’.
Opting for utensils such as knives and scissors is often counter-productive as the sharp blade can cut the vein in half and cause the icky contents to disperse – which is especially infuriating when you have to de-vein an entire bag of prawns.
So Adrian's toothpick method is a sure-fire way to claw those prawn veins out fully intact.
He starts off by grabbing a toothpick and locating the tail on the prawn.
Then, he pierces the toothpick in the fleshy area between the tail and the last shell segment, slightly below the dark line. Adrian proceeds by gently tugging upwards and successfully lifting the whole vein out. Quite satisfying to look at, eh?
