How awkward! Woman's birthday cake surprise turns hilariously awry
- Replies 4
At some point in our lives, we either wanted to be given a surprise birthday cake or have wanted to surprise someone with a cake of their own. Unfortunately, not many people are skilled bakers (myself included), so we enlist the help of professionals to make the special occasion even more memorable.
But what happens when even the pros can’t handle the heat in the kitchen?
A baker missed the mark completely when a 24-year-old woman requested their services for her birthday party.
The woman, Angelica, uploaded a video to the popular social media platform TikTok, detailing her experience ordering a cake for her birthday while holidaying in Mexico.
‘I’m speechless,’ she captioned her video.
Angelica asked the baker for a pastel pink heart-shaped cake with decorative frosting and cherries on top. There’s also edible glitter scattered on top of the cake, and edible pearls shaped into hearts decorating the sides.
She said that when she presented the cake design to the baker, they were ‘so confident’, which is what led her to believe that they could bake a similar cake.
However, what she received was, well…not what she imagined. Instead of the pastel pink colour, the cake she was presented with was glaringly bright pink, with a badly-drawn and tiny number ‘24’ in the middle made from melted chocolate – a feature that was not in the original version she requested.
It had too many cherries, no pearls, no glitter, and was only slightly heart-shaped.
‘When you go to Mexico to celebrate your birthday and order a cake,’ Angelica wrote in the clip. The cake ‘fail’ amassed 222,000 views, and over 27,000 likes, and left thousands of Angelica’s viewers in stitches over the incident.
‘Ah, yes. Pepto-Bismol pink,’ one quipped.
‘Well, at least it’s heart-shaped,’ another said.
While one shared: ‘They could say “Hey, we can’t do that. Do you want to choose one of the styles we’re more familiar with?”’
‘The colour, the circle…I screamed,’ someone else commented.
‘I’m sorry about the cake, happy birthday,’ one more offered.
Others were asking how much Angelica paid for the cake and how it tasted.
‘But did it taste good, at least?’ One asked to which Angelica replied: ‘LOL, um, I didn’t take it.’
You can watch Angelica’s video below:
While some looked at the brighter side of things.
‘At least they tried, you could’ve gotten an uglier cake,’ stated one.
‘It’s still cute but definitely not what you asked for,’ another replied.
And someone pointed out that the cake is actually ‘pretty decent’ on its own.
In a similar instance, a woman was left shocked after seeing the custom cake she ordered for her partner looked less than ideal. Posting it in a popular Facebook group, the design she requested consisted of various chocolates, lollies, and mini bottles of whiskey. The baker told her that she can bake the cake ‘exactly’ like what was in the reference photo. Check out what she received instead in this article.
More hilarious cake fails have brought a bit of joy to people all over the world, thanks to the popular social media forum Reddit.

We can’t help but feel concerned about the poor baker who made this cake. Maybe they were a little tired while working? Well, whatever the case, it’s clear they were doing their best here and the cake design makes for a great story!
They say art is subjective, and most of us will more or less agree. That said, what can you say about this second cake?
Because the more you look at it, the more you’ll realise that a lot is going on here. First, is it actually a cake or made out of cookie dough? What is the cartoon supposed to be, Big Bird from Sesame Street? Why is there a second brown line in the middle of it? Whoever made this cake, please, we need answers.
Sometimes bakers like to incorporate their own sense of humour in their designs, like this story one Redditor shared online. They said that their girlfriend’s little brother wanted an ‘army’ cake for his birthday. Their mum orders one over the phone.
‘When they go to pick it up, this is what they arrive to,’ the Redditor said and attached the photo below:
The Redditor assumes that there was a slight miscommunication, but clearly the baker had other (better?) ideas in mind.
This next cake design doesn’t even need an explanation:
Although we do want to know how Matt felt when he saw his cake.
Our pets are beloved members of our households. So, of course, they deserve a little recognition every now and then.
While we’re sure the owner just wanted to show their cat the love and appreciation it deserves, their furry friend looked incredibly unimpressed.
The cat was probably thinking ‘Do I really look like THAT? Oh well, at least mum looks happy.’
Luckily, Angelica took her birthday fail in good stride and everyone had a laugh over it. What about you, members? Have you ever had a cake fail or experienced something similar? Tell us about it in the comments section below – you know we love hearing about your stories!
