How are seasonal allergies spoiling your bedroom performance? Aussie men speak up!

As the warm weather continues to set in, many Australians are enjoying the heat–but if you’re prone to allergies, it can also mean hours of sneezing, sniffling, and runny noses.

But there’s a reality that thousands of men are now acknowledging–their seasonal allergies are affecting their sex lives.

According to research findings organised by allergy medication FESS, 12 per cent of men surveyed said they experience sneezing during sex.

What is it about allergies that could disrupt a man's bedroom performance?

Firstly, allergens such as dust, pollen, animal dander, and mould can trigger a runny or stuffy nose, itchy or watery eyes, sneezing, wheezing, and rashes, among other symptoms.

A man battling these can find it challenging to focus on intimacy. After all, it’s understandably tough to find your groove when the only rhythm you've got going is a steady sequence of sneezes or resonant snoring due to a blocked nose.

Beyond the bedroom, most Aussies said a runny nose had disrupted their social events.

Fifteen per cent also admitted to cancelling dates due to a stuffy nose, and around 25 per cent said they’d be fine with wiping their noses with their sleeves in the absence of tissue.

Alarmingly, 11 per cent resorted to doing a ‘snot rocket’ when out of options.

For Dr Brad McKay, the revealed statistics are clear–Australians are 'struggling' with seasonal allergies.

'These findings shed light on the millions of Australians struggling to manage their nasal health,' Dr McKay said.

'A blocked or runny nose can usually be fixed very easily, and with numerous treatments available no one needs to miss out on their holiday plans.'

Fortunately, steps can be taken to reduce the effects of the symptoms, otherwise known as allergic rhinitis, or more commonly, hay fever.

Dr McKay advises avoiding things like pollen, dust mites, and exposure to bushfire smoke as well as using preventative tips like FESS Saline Nasal Spray to clear the nasal airways to start ‘breathing clearly’.

National Asthma Council Sensitive Choice program manager Adele Taylor even suggests embracing ‘Nosevember’, a month dedicated to taking proactive steps towards respiratory health.

'Reducing your exposure to allergens can reduce the risk of allergic reactions or allergy-related asthma flare-ups,' Ms Taylor said.
