Hooper's Store

A classic slice of Aussie suburbia! Local stores like Hooper’s were the heart of the neighbourhood back in the day — you’d pop in for groceries, have a chat with the owners, and maybe grab a few lollies on the way out.

No self-service checkouts, no plastic bags, just friendly faces and that unmistakable smell of fresh bread and soap powder in the air.

Did you have a corner shop like this near your home growing up? What do you remember buying — milk in glass bottles, a roll of Lifesavers, or maybe a bag of mixed lollies for 20 cents? Share your stories below!

Like the Milk Bars as they were known pre and during WW11
A combination of a deli, selling milkshakes, sandwiches, cakes etc, some fruit and vegetables and some groceries. Sadly they are a "thing of the past" although there is still a few in country towns In 2012 there was still one on Henley Beach Road near the golf course that also sold a few hot meals.
