Homemade Chicken Souvlaki

In our house The chicken Souvlaki is a staple. Served with a salad either by itself or on a Pita bread with tzatziki.

My daughter will only eat homemade ones .

You can use either breast or thigh fillets but I prefer thigh fillets

Ingredients​

MARINADE​

  • 1.2 g chicken thigh fillets (or breast), cut into 1"/2.5cm pieces
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/2 cup lemon juice
  • 3 garlic cloves , minced
  • 3 tbsp dried oregano
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • Black pepper

TO COOK / SERVE​

  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • pita bread or Lebanese bread
  • Salad

TZATZIKI optional . I have added a recipe for tzatziki before . Or buy from deli or Coles. We like the brand Chris​


Instructions​

  • 1. Place chicken and Marinade into a bowl and set aside to marinate for at least 3 hours to overnight.

  • 2. Thread chicken onto 16 skewers.

  • 3. Heat oil in a large skillet over high heat (or BBQ). Cook skewers for 3 minutes on each side, or until cooked through.
  • 4. Serve Chicken Souvlaki with tzatziki, PITA breads (make your own!), and salad

NOTES​

Recipe can be halved or doubled. I try to make extra for the next day, although no matter how many I make they are all eaten.​
