Home and Away star Tristan Gorey receives surprising news: ‘I didn’t know what to think’

In soap operas, where drama and unexpected twists are as common as the rising sun, actor Tristan Gorey experienced a real-life plot twist that could have been ripped straight from the script of Home and Away.

The 29-year-old actor, who has become a fan favourite for his portrayal of the dashing Dr Levi Fowler, recently shared a behind-the-scenes anecdote that's as surprising as any on-screen storyline.

When Tristan learned of his Logie Award nomination for Most Popular New Talent, his initial reaction was far from celebratory.

In fact, he thought his days in Summer Bay were numbered. 'I didn't know what to think when I got nominated,' he said.

'Our publicist had a mysterious meeting he wanted to have, and our head of drama was in there too, and I thought, “Oh, I'm getting fired or something”, and they sat me down and said I'd been nominated, and I didn't know what to think. I thought, “Oh, you guys must have the wrong cast member!”’

The relief and disbelief that followed have made his nomination all the more sweet.

Tristan's journey to the Bay has been nothing short of a whirlwind.

Hailing from Western Australia, he uprooted his life to dive into the role of Levi, a character whose on-screen life has been as tumultuous as it has been heroic.

From saving lives to navigating the complexities of love and betrayal, Levi's storylines have kept viewers on the edge of their seats.

Tristan's dedication to bringing Levi to life is evident, and his Logie nomination is a testament to his hard work and the impact he's had on the show's loyal audience.

The actor's path to the role was sprinkled with serendipity and a touch of humour.

Recalling the moment he first read the brief for Levi, Tristan shared, 'This brief came through on this dashing heart surgeon and I burst out laughing when I was reading [it].'

‘I was with a good friend of mine who is a doctor, and she came up with all these ideas for me. I did the audition and a couple of days later I found out I had a chemistry test which is essentially for the higher-ups to see how you go with Emily Weir, who was playing the love interest.’

The chemistry between Levi and Mac has been undeniable, making them one of Summer Bay's hottest couples.

But Tristan's humour shone through when pondering an alternative romantic path for Levi.

'I think he's got a secret love for Marilyn at the Pier diner,' he quipped, suggesting that Levi's heart might have wandered to another if not for Mac.

As Tristan faces off against younger stars from shows like Boy Swallows Universe, Bay of Fires, and The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart for the Logie Award, he maintains a lighthearted approach to the competition.

'I think there'd be a lot of shame if I don't beat out the school children!' he joked.

That word "beloved" again, it means greatly loved, or close to the heart. How can a tv actor be classed as greatly loved, maybe to his mother, but not to the rest of us.
