Here's how you can save loads of money on your purchases: Australian retailers that offer price matching!

In today's economic climate, we are all looking for ways to save a little money where we can. And while there are many creative methods of cutting back on spending (growing your own fruit and veg, or shopping at second-hand stores), did you know that one of the easiest ways to save money is by simply taking advantage of price matching?

What is price matching? You may have seen signs in-store advertising that the retailer matches competitors’ prices. This means that if you find an item being sold for less at another store, the retailer will sell it to you at the same price. How good is that?

Now, while this service is not available at every store, many major retailers do offer it – so it pays to know which ones before you go out shopping! Here's a list of some Australian stores that offer Price Matching:

Kmart

Looking for a bargain? You're in luck because Kmart has your back.

The retail giant has a Price Match policy in place to make sure you're getting the best deal possible on the products you love. So how does it work?

It's quite simple. If you find an identical stocked item (i.e. the same brand, model and colour) being advertised at a lower price by another Australian retailer, Kmart will match that price. Just take your chosen product and proof of the lower priced competitor pricing (i.e. catalogue, online or physical adverts, or a photograph of the pricing of the product from an eligible store of the competitor) to the customer service desk before purchase, and they will take care of the rest.

Please note that this policy excludes online-only offers, products on clearance, online retailers, and clearance or warehouse outlets. Additionally, iTunes vouchers and gift cards are not eligible for price matching.

Bunnings

There's just something about walking around a huge warehouse full of things we need (or more likely, don't need) that gets us excited.

And, of course, when it comes to home improvement projects, Aussies love a good bargain — that is why Bunnings is always so popular among shoppers!

We can always count on Bunnings to have the lowest prices around – that's just their policy! They guarantee that if you find a competitor's lower price (including GST and delivery charges) on the same in-stock item that's available for same-day delivery or collection, they'll beat it by 10%.

Additionally, items purchased from Bunnings online are also eligible for price matching.

It should be noted, however, that trade quotes, stock liquidations, commercial volumes, and Marketplace goods are not included in this scheme.

To process the price guarantee and place your order, please email [email protected].

Dan Murphy's

We all love a good drop of wine, whether it's to enjoy with a meal at home or to take along to a friend's place for dinner. And we all know that a nice bottle of wine can be quite pricey.

But, did you know that there are ways to get your hands on your favourite wines at a fraction of the cost?

Dan Murphy's has a price matching policy that allows customers to request a lower price of a drop for as long as they have proof that the similar liquor is sold by a competitor retailer for a cheaper price.

Their price match policy states that if you find a lower price on the same stocked product at another store (within 10km), they will beat it on the spot – no questions asked!

But keep in mind that the retailer will only match a competitor's price on a ‘like-for-like’ basis, which means that any delivery fees or charges, the same purchase amount, the same State/Territory container deposit scheme, and the same shopping method (for example, online competitor prices are only matched when ordering with Dan Murphy's online) are all eligible for the scheme.

Meanwhile, Dan Murphy's is unable to lower its prices below the minimum floor pricing in applicable areas (for example, Northern Territory); beat prices from overseas online, member-only and duty-free retailers, liquidation or clearance sales; or compete with any offers that are not open to the general public (for instance, club or membership offers)

Customers who seek a price match must present evidence of competition pricing; examples include a competitor's catalogue, website link, or voucher or coupon.

Chemist Warehouse

Do you often shop at Chemist Warehouse? If so, there's a chance you could be paying too much for your items - but luckily, there's a way to fix that.

The popular pharmacy has a Price Matching Policy in place, which means that if you find the same item being sold for cheaper at another Australian Registered Pharmacy or Retailer, Chemist Warehouse will match the price... and give you 10% off the difference.

Sounds great so far, right? Here's everything else you need to know about the policy:

The price matching is capped at the applicable retail limit or a maximum of three of each product.

If you want to price match in person, please bring a catalogue from the competing retailer that contains verifiable documentation of their price.

The price reduction will apply when you buy the item in person. A Chemist Warehouse team member also has the option to get in touch with the competing retailer to confirm their price before honouring the price match.

If you'd like to request a price match online, you need to provide a direct link to the competitor's website where the product is being advertised along with your order number via email at [email protected]. You may also contact them via 1300 367 283 for your queries for online orders and at 1300 734 876 for your local store.

Please be aware that the establishment must receive your price match request within 24 hours of receiving your order.

Additionally, you must pay in full for your item, if your price match is accepted, you will get a refund for the lower price.

Unfortunately, for orders made via the Click and Collect service, we are unable to handle a price match.

Of course, there are exceptions to the price match policy and here's everything you need to know:

International orders and deals that are only available online are not covered by our price matching policy.

Products from the other company cannot be subject to this policy if they are unavailable, out-of-date, on clearance or discontinued, a component of a promotion, such as a buy one, get one free deal, and orders placed through Click and Collect.

If a price-matching claim does not adhere to the aforementioned standards, Chemistry Warehouse maintains the right to reject it.

The Good Guys

We all love a good bargain, especially when it comes to purchasing big-ticket items like TVs, fridges and washing machines.

If you're a savvy shopper who's always on the hunt for a bargain, the chances are you'll be able to snag yourself a pretty decent deal most of the time.

But sometimes, no matter how hard we try or how many different stores we check out, we just can't find the price that's right for us.

This is where The Good Guys price match guarantee comes in handy!

The retailer typically price matches any product for as long as you can provide sufficient proof of the price of a similar item from a competitor.

Customers who are looking to price match are also required to bring proof of pre-purchase upon visiting or calling the retailer for the request.

Additionally, if the item was advertised by the rival retailer within 30 days of your purchase, you can also request a store credit refund. Keep in mind, however, that only items that are approved by The Good Guys are eligible for this scheme.

If the request for a credit refund is approved, you will receive 120% of the price difference, provided it is greater than $5.

It should also be noted that only those who are members of the Gold Service Extras are eligible for this.

JB Hi-Fi

JB Hi-Fi is dedicated to providing the best prices and industry-leading deals as Australia's largest discount technology, entertainment, and appliance retailer.

Any similar product that is in stock at both the competitor store and a JB Hi-Fi store will have its price matched.

It should be noted that JB Hi-Fi must confirm the competitor's price. Additionally, any shipping charges must be included in online price comparisons.

However, this policy does not apply to commercial orders, competitor advertising errors, members-only or subscription prices, bonus or bundled incentives, grey or direct import products, or products that are not offered through an authorised Australian reseller.

Also, competitor sale items or items with limited supply are not eligible for the scheme.

Officeworks

Officeworks offers a Price Beat Guarantee (PBG) to make sure you're always getting the best value for your money no matter what you're buying.

The popular stationary store pledged to match any competitor's pricing – even if it's on sale. And not only will they match the price, but they'll beat it by 5%!

You read that right, folks! The process for obtaining the 5% discount is also simple: All you have to do is go to an Officeworks location near you or call them at 1300 OFFICE (1300 633 423). Next, inform them of which product you're interested in buying and give them some proof of the lower price (a clipping from a catalogue, a screenshot taken from your phone, a webpage, or something similar). Once a staff member has given the go-ahead, you will earn 5% off the matched price and be on your way!

Please note, however, that the PBG is not available through their online store.

Additionally, the guarantee is only valid for all comparable goods and services that are offered by Officeworks, its competitor, and items that are not exempted from the PBG. (See below for items that are excluded from the price policy)

PBG Exclusions:

Officeworks reserves the right to restrict sales to reasonable retail quantities, including but not limited to: Cashback and coupon offers (such as supplier cashback or reduced prices made available via a paper coupon or electronic codeword); Commercial quantities and pricing (such as a reduced price not available to the general public and including Apple Reseller Education pricing); Stock liquidations (such as competitor clearance products or goods sold by a business that has been placed into receivership).

Flight Centre

We all know how frustrating it can be to book a flight, only to find out the price has dropped soon after. But what if we told you that you could get up to $500 back on your airfare if this happens?

Introducing Flight Centre's new Price Drop Protection Policy – an exclusive protection that adds even more value to your holiday and gives you peace of mind when booking.

The scheme allows customers to take advantage of up to $50 pp in the form of a voucher just in case their airfares drop in price before their scheduled departure date.

With the added security that comes with getting their desired flights for the lowest price possible, customers are encouraged to plan their adventures to a maximum and make the most of the value-add service.

Applying for the voucher is also easy — simply inform a Flight Centre customer service staff member of your request or call 1300 554 268 for further assistance.

Bing Lee

Bing Lee is one of Australia's most trusted electronics retailers, and for good reason. Not only do they sell top-quality products, but they also offer great customer service and competitive prices.

But what if you find a better price somewhere else? That's where Bing Lee's Price Match Policy comes in.

This policy sets out the circumstances in which Bing Lee will match an advertised price for a product offered by a competitor. This applies to sales made by Bing Lee through retail stores or online but excludes products purchased using ‘Buy now, pay later’ options such as ZipPay, ZipMoney, Afterpay or Finance.

Here are the conditions of the policy:

The competitor must be a legitimate Australian company with a registered Australian Business Number and Goods and Services Tax registration. Additionally, they must run at least two physical retail locations in Australia under the competing retailer's name.

The competitor's product must have the same brand, model, series, specifications, features, colour, year of production, and condition as Bing Lee. If advertised by an online competitor, it must also be in stock and available for immediate delivery via courier or Australia Post.

It must also be in stock with both the competitor and Bing Lee (not on back order), not included in a bundle or bonus offer at the time of price matching, and available for immediate purchase from the competitor.

GST and any delivery and handling fees must both be included in the competitor's product price. The Bing Lee staff should also be able to verify it upon request.

Products offered through eBay or as part of a bundle, tied (‘Buy Now, Pay Later’ options like AfterPay, finance or payment option), gift card, coupon, or bonus offerings at the time of price matching are excluded from Bing Lee's price matching policy. Also excluded are commercial quantities, delivery, installation, or handling fees, finance or credit terms, and offers by resellers.

I've never truly understood, why wouldn't you just go to the place that was selling the product at the cheaper price? The stores that say they price match then go on to put so many hoops for you to jump through, restrictions and limitations, just go to the other shop! :)

To me price matching would only be a benefit if the shop is very close to me
I shop alot at the good guys which is 15 minutes from me. Harvey Norman is around the corner so if it was cheaper at Harvey Norman than thats where I would get it from .

Even the ones who give an extra 5 % off I feel it wouldn't be worth the running around getting a price to take and get them to match it 🤔

A show on the ABC a few years ago (possibly called The Checkout or similar ??) revealed that most of Bunnings stock, even brand names, is produced for Bunnings only. For example, a Ryobi power tool stocked at Bunnings will be unique to Bunnings although similar to other items found elsewhere and therefore can’t be price matched. Sneaky sneaky sneaky. I wonder how many of the other major chain stores have the same arrangement with suppliers.

Officeworks can be difficult to deal with re matching, they often insist on the item number matching exactly their item number which on big ticket electronic such as portable SSD/HDD is always a different to manufacturers numbers

Lots of them do. Where else can you buy hardware, bunnings has wiped out all their competitors.

One SNEAKY way around this by retailers. They have their own names for Items. I found this recently with Sealy mattresses. Hardly Normal had a totally different range name to others. Eventually bought at David Jones.

David Jones would price match with offers shown on a on a phone by competitors.

Bunnings only offer on exact matches.
