Here's how this shower hack can save you hundreds of dollars a year

Your shower is one of the places in your home where you can relax and feel refreshed. That’s why it’s important to keep your shower well-maintained.

If you have a shower in your home, you know how important it is to keep it clean. But sometimes, no matter how much you scrub, it can feel like your shower is never fully spotless.

And if you don't keep on top of things, your shower can quickly become a breeding ground for mould and mildew. Worse, you might even end up paying hundreds of dollars for plumbing services as dirt, hair, and products build up and clog your drains.

Luckily, there are a few things you can do to make sure your shower stays sparkling clean and fresh!

Just take a look at this drain hair catcher that was posted on social media by a user who claimed to have used it to cut costs on shower maintenance services.

Taking to Facebook to share their trick, the user claimed the product was able to keep the drains clean by preventing all the hair and other dirt particles from going down the drain.

'Do yourself a favour and put these drain hair catchers in your budget as they can save you hundreds, if not thousands, in the long run in plumbing costs,' they wrote on the Markdown Addicts Australia Facebook group.

'I’m so grossed out by this retrieval but gotta be grateful I was able to do the job instead of a plumber, right?'

The disposable device, also known as a hair snare or drain wig, features a chain with plastic snares that sit in the drain and capture hair before it travels further down the pipe and clogs it.

The original poster added: 'I was totally grossed out by it but wanted to share so people knew what could be going down the drain along with some $$$.'

The post has captured the attention of many group members who were glad to have discovered the simple tool.

One woman wrote: 'Best thing I did, daughter has such long hair, amazing how much hair is caught.'

'I got the yellow plastic one from Bunnings when the basin at our old house kept blocking... Couldn't believe how much gunk I got out... Best thing I ever bought,' another commented.

A third joked: 'Hubby made me a long metal hook. I do ours every couple of months. Our suckers are the size of yeti's.'

Group members were also excited that the inexpensive device would result in fewer calls to the plumber, with some noting that they are content to clean the hair out of the hair catcher and reuse them, while others were grateful the catchers are disposable so you can just throw them out without having to touch the matted hair caught in it.
