Here’s a product a shopper swears by that you should not sleep on: ALDI’s Defrosting Chopping Board!

If you need to thaw your mince, you can either use the microwave or take it out from the freezer hours in advance.

But what if you don’t want the meat to end up being partially cooked? Or you can’t wait all day for it to defrost?

ALDI has the answer: a defrosting chopping board!

An Aussie shopper went to social media to share her exciting discovery.

On the ALDI Facebook group, she posted a photo of the ALDI defrosting chopping board with the caption: ‘Don't walk, run to get this. I put 1kg of mince on it at almost 3 pm. It's 5 pm now and it’s almost completely defrosted! My kitchen is cold, so there is no way it would have if I just left out even all day long.’

The woman didn’t scrimp on praise by calling it her ‘best buy ever’.

Now, we’re quick to resort to hyperbole when we chance upon a great purchase. But is the board truly game-changing?

Other members of the Facebook group seem to think so.

One ALDI fan commented: ‘Agree, I was totally sceptical about this item, bought it, and it was soooooo good.’

Do we take the multiple letter Os as a good sign?

Another user was less generous with their use of vowels, but also supported the original poster’s claim: ‘I love it too. I always forget to take food out to defrost. This helps a lot.’

Someone else was so impressed with their buy that they went ahead and bought it for their mum. ‘I picked up one last week. I used it the same day and my steak was thawed in 3 hours. I've used it most days since getting it. I went back on Saturday and picked up another for my mum for her to use,’ the group member said. ‘I, too, was sceptical, but it really works.’

Wondering how long it would take to thaw food using the board versus leaving it at room temperature? Another ALDI fan tried it out themselves.

‘I was sceptical when I saw it. I purchased and had two frozen dog food slabs to defrost: one on the board and another on the counter. Pleasantly surprised when the meat on the board defrosted significantly faster!’

The glowing reviews are encouraging, but we have a word of warning.

While a thawing board is convenient, it is not always recommended. Some meats, like steak, will take a longer time to defrost. The board could warm the surface, but the inside of the meat will take a lot longer.

And as you already know, leaving meat at room temperature can attract bacteria that cause food poisoning.

You can always defrost through the fridge if you don’t want to use the microwave. Just transfer the item from the freezer to the fridge the night before, and it should be thawed the next day.

But if you forget, you can always order out or have a takeaway meal — in the meantime, at least.

We have not tried the defrosting chopping board from ALDI ourselves, so we can’t really say if it’s a purchase every Aussie kitchen needs. It certainly caught our attention though.

Do we have any SDC members who own the ALDI thawing board? We’d love to know your experience — and if it’s truly worth the hype. Leave a comment below!
