Hedge trimmer, Coles plush toys recalled over safety concerns ahead of Easter

Gardening is a beloved pastime for many Australians, especially those who take pride in maintaining a beautiful yard.

It's a way to stay active, enjoy the outdoors, and keep homes looking their best.

However, a recent product recall is a stark reminder that even our trusty tools can sometimes pose unexpected dangers.

Product Safety Australia has issued a recall for a popular cordless hand-held brushless hedge trimmer due to a laceration hazard.

The EGO Power+ Cordless Brushless Hedge Trimmer, known for its 24-inch (61cm) blade, is manufactured by Chervon Australia Pty Ltd and has been sold in warehouse stores nationally, including Mitre 10, from August 1, 2018, to March 31, 2020.

The issue is a defective rear switch trigger, which could lead to the trimmer activating unexpectedly.

Product Safety Australia explained, 'The rear trigger switch can fail to rebound after being pressed, which can cause the hedge trimmer to activate unexpectedly.’

If you're trimming and the device suddenly springs to life without warning, the risk of serious injury, including laceration, is significantly increased.

This is particularly concerning for seniors, who may not react as quickly to sudden movements or may be more susceptible to serious injuries.

The EGO logo is prominently displayed on one side of the hedge trimmer's body, with the model number HT2410 and the serial number on the opposite side.

The product may have been purchased individually as a tool only – HT2410E, or as part of a hedge trimmer set, which included the tool, battery, and charger - HT2411E.

To determine if your hedge trimmer is affected by this recall, check the serial number, which should fall within one of the following ranges:

- AHT04180500701X–AHT04180501300X
- AHT04180500001X–AHT04180500600X
- AHT04180600001X–AHT04180600300X
- AHT04180604951X–AHT04180605250X
- AHT04180611451X–AHT04180611750X

If your hedge trimmer's serial number matches any of the above, you are advised to stop using the tool immediately.

The good news is that Chervon is offering a free repair of the rear trigger switch to address the safety concern.

Those with the affected product can head over to its manufacturer recall portal here or contact Chervon at 1300 000 346, option 3. They can also email [email protected].

Another recall has been issued, and this time, it’s a cause of concern for parents and grandparents across Australia ahead of Easter.

Coles, one of the country's leading supermarket chains, has issued an urgent recall on a range of their Easter-themed plush toys, which could potentially put children at risk.

The recall specifically targets the Coles Easter Bunny Squeezer Pals, available in hues of blue, grey, and purple, as well as the Coles Easter Light Up Chicken and Bunny.

These toys, likely to be popular among children this Easter, have been found to have a serious defect.

The issue lies in the stitching of the plush toys, which have been deemed faulty.

This defect could lead to the exposure of the toy's filling, presenting a choking hazard that could endanger young children.

The plush toys were available in-store and online from February 26 to March 20, making their way into many Australian homes.

The potential risk they pose is significant enough that Coles has taken the proactive step of recalling the items to prevent any incidents.

For parents and guardians, Coles' message is clear: keep these plush toys out of reach of children immediately.

You are entitled to a full refund if you have purchased any of these toys. To facilitate this, you can return the toys to any Coles store.

The process is slightly different for those who have made their purchases online.

Coles advises customers to safely dispose of the toy and then contact Coles Online Customer Care at 1800 455 400 to arrange for a full refund or credit.

In addition, for any further queries or concerns, Coles Customer Care is available at 1800 061 562 to provide assistance and information.
