Healthier Samosa recipe using AFFORDABLE ingredients that you will surely love — “Game changer!”

Samosas are gradually taking us by storm as more and more Australians develop a liking for this Indian treat.

Proving its popularity among Aussies, Aldi has even released a samosa making gadget last year that quickly became a hit among shoppers nationwide.

However, most of the samosas available in the market are deep-fried and full of oil and cholesterol, making this seemingly healthy snack a bit of a problem for those who are looking to lose some weight or are keeping their blood pressure in check.

So, if you have been thinking twice about indulging in this delicious Indian snack, worry no more! We've got some fantastic news for you!

TikTok user Maya Leinenbach, who posts under the username @fitgreenmind, has shared her secret recipe for making vegan samosas.

"Let's make Samosas!" the 17-year-old says in the video.

Maya starts making the "very simple" dough by placing two cups of flour along with a pinch of salt and five tablespoons of oil.

"Then gradually add your cold water," she says, emphasising that the cold water can clump up the dry ingredients if you pour it at once.

For those who are curious about how much cold water needs to be added, Maya writes in the comments that she used six tablespoons of cold water for this recipe.

The vegan TikTok user then kneads the dough until it forms into a ball before letting it rest.

For the filling, Maya starts heating some oil on a pan before putting in some diced ginger.

Next, she adds one teaspoon of garam masala, one teaspoon of ground cumin, and one tablespoon of ground coriander.

Once the spices are fried, Maya puts three big pieces of boiled potatoes into the pan and mashes them until they are at her desired consistency.

Then she adds 100 grams of green peas and a pinch of salt to taste.

Now that the filling is ready, grab the dough ball that you set aside from earlier.

Cut the dough into 8 circles and cut each circle in half.

Maya says that in order for you to make a "pocket" with your dough, you need to brush some water on the straight side of the semi-circle dough and fold it.

Then she adds some filling and seals the pocket.

"Here's your samosa" Maya says, showing off the parcel of mashed potato mixture wrapped in dough.

To cook them, Maya recommends brushing a little bit of oil before popping them into the oven or air fryer.

"Crispy on the outside, soft filling on the inside," Maya says while trying her finished product.

The video became viral on TikTok, amassing more than 236,000 views, more than 19,000 likes, and hundreds of comments from users who are raving about the recipe.

One person wrote: "I love your recipes and I love the positive energy in all your vids."

"I love samosas! Those look really good," another added.

A third chimed in: "Love it! I'm gonna try it this week."

Others suggested some tweaks in the recipe to make it even better.

One woman wrote: "Try adding caraway seeds to the dough and cilantro to the filling next time."

"Tamarind dipping sauce too! Game changer!"

Meanwhile, a number of users demanded Maya release the recipe for the sauce, asking: "What about that green sauce?"

While the 17-year-old did not disclose her recipe for the sauce, we recommend watching this video tutorial for some other recipes for sauces for your samosas!
