Haven't tried that yet , I actually love just plain hotcross buns but you can basically do anything with them.
I have at one time turned them into a bread n butter pudding

Eating a Hot Cross bun or two at Easter is fine, eating a little Xmas pudding at Xmas is fine, but that's where it should end. This sort of food and other similar sugar and carb packed foods are what people are eating regularly. They do this under their own perceived banner of 'I eat in moderation '. But in actual fact they eat sugar and carbs to excess and so starts the steady (or sometimes fast) decline in their health. Particularly as we age.

These days the supermarkets sell so many varieties of hot cross buns , it just is not funny . And they make them with more sugar in like the fairy sprinkles , not for me thank you Woolies ! I actually saw them in Woolies and they looked rather sad as they just came out of a big container and squashed together in a plastic bag.
I usually make my own with crushed up nuts in them , I don’t do the glaze as it just sticks on your fingers ,yuck.
If you want to buy X-mas fruit mince pies , Woolies sell them for 1/2 price . . X-mas might be gone , but they will be taste the same for people who like them .
I make my own X-mas cake as well , a lot tastier with coconut flour. I make it every year and people who visit us expect to have a piece of that .

I just think shops are taking all the joy out of the anticipation in waiting for an event, everything is on top of other events. We still have Australia day, and Valentines Day, before Easter. But I do love the buns, I even freeze some for later.

Hot Cross buns traditionally are eaten on Good Friday. Selling & buying them from Boxing Day is an offence against Christian tradition. Sell the buns at any time without the cross should be the way to go. The cross doesn’t alter the taste - it’s just flour & water. Why do our Christian icons continue to be rubbished? Christians are always being asked not to offend others so why may others offend Christians?
