Hat's off to cleanliness: Expert's dishwasher tip for fresh caps leaves social media in a spin

Caps and hats are more than just fashion accessories; they're loyal companions that shield us from the sun, absorb our sweat during a workout, and even hide a bad hair day but as much as we love our caps, we often overlook the need to clean them.

If you've ever hesitated to wash your cap for fear of ruining its shape or fabric, you're not alone.

However, a cleaning expert has shared a surprising trick that might just change the way you think about freshening up your headwear.

Cleaning guru Ken Long took to social media to share his unconventional method for washing caps, and it's causing quite a stir online.

In a video that has now garnered over 12 million views, Ken suggested that the best place to wash your caps isn't the laundry but the kitchen—more specifically, in the dishwasher.

Yes, you read that correctly. The dishwasher, typically reserved for cleaning plates, glasses, and cutlery, can also serve as a cap-cleaning haven.

Ken advised that if your hats are looking a bit worse for wear and have visible stains, you should first treat them with a pre-wash stain remover, then place them on ‘the top rack’ of your dishwasher.

‘Use dishwashing detergent, turn on the coldest and shortest setting,’ he recommended.

‘Make sure you turn off the heat and dry setting as that (keeping those on) will shrink your caps.’

After the cycle is complete, Ken said remove your caps and ‘place them on a drying rack overnight’.

The reaction to Ken's video was mixed, with some viewers expressing scepticism and others sharing their amusement.

One commenter questioned, ‘What's wrong with a washing machine?’

Another quipped, ‘So the dishes can go in the bathtub now, right?’

‘That’s crazy,’ a third remarked.

Despite the divided opinions, there are those who swear by this method, with one person commenting, ‘I agree with using the dishwasher, I've been cleaning my boys' hats like this for years.’

‘Wow, amazing,’ said another.

‘Thanks so much for sharing,’ a third chimed.

Ken is no stranger to sharing household tips and tricks.

His social media account is a treasure trove of advice, ranging from lawn-mowing techniques to fridge-cleaning tricks.

His innovative approach to everyday chores earned him a following of people eager to simplify their cleaning routines.

How about a bit of good old fashioned elbow grease. Wash the bleedin things in a tub with water and plain old ordinary washing liquid.
Some of the stuff that people come up with is nothing but a whole load of twaddle.
Here's an idea ...new time management suggestion. While the dishwasher is doing this bit of magic, might have to put the dirty dishes in the washing machine at the same time. Pffff.

Recently washed a filter from the Cooktop exhaust fan in the dishwasher with dishes. Did a great job.

I understand hubcaps wash well in dishwashers too. (Never tried myself).
Hubcaps are multifunctional. They can adorn your car's wheels or used as a pasta or cereal dish. Trouble is, they aren't microwave friendly.
