Gumtree scam

A friend advertised some new shoes on Gumtree for $15. She received a response purporting to be from Gumtree's "Tech.Support" saying:

"Welcome to Gumtree! Your item has been ordered by a user. A confirmation of receipt will be sent to the mailing address you have provided. Payment for the courier's services shall be made by the purchaser. You don't need to ship the goods or anything else, they will come to you. Send your e-mailing address in reply to this message."

A link labelled "Reply to Tech.Support" appeared at the end. My friend reported this message to Gumtree Australia and was advised it was a payment fraud attempt that asks for the person's email address, then sends a link to a third party payment site, asking the seller to provide their payment details. They may also ask you to contact Gumtree's help desk for assistance. Gumtree does not offer a delivery or payment system. They also do not communicate through messages.

Please be alert for scams of this kind where you are asked for your payment details. This is just another attempt by criminals to access your accounts. Be aware - be safe.

I had this one too and told them that only hard cash in Australian currency would be received "in hand" at the point of sale (my address) with the said banknotes checked on a website for counterfeit risk before the item is handed over to whoever (courier or whatever) is collecting it. - never heard anything more from them! (good riddance)

Yep I had this (or very similar). Told them only cash on pick up was acceptable. It was obvious to me it was a scam because they contacted me less than a minute after I posted the item, they wanted this courier arrangement for a $30 chair which just didn't make any sense.
