Credit where credit is due.

How smart was Pope Gregory X111, for instigating the Gregorian Calendar in 1582.

Even our mate, Veggie would have to agree on this one.

What do you reckon, Veggie ?
Yes, I do condone.

On a different note, units of measurement, whether it be weight, volume, length or area, is totally screwed when it comes to the imperial system.

16 ounces in a pound? 8 pints to a gallon? 12 inches in a foot? 43560 square feet to an acre?

What idiot developed these units?

The only thing the French did was to develop the SI (or metric) system of measurement, derived from base 10.

Too bad they can't change the system of time. 60 seconds in a minute? The only thing which can't be changed is the day in relation to the year. That is a unwavering physical constant.

There was some sense in the imperial system, like 12 and 16 can be evenly divided by several numbers, so creating fractions of whatever was fairly easy. The decimal system can only be evenly divided by 2 and 5.
