ALDI's got an offer that's too juicy to resist - a two-pack of lemon and lime plants in 125mm pots for just $17.99! For less than twenty bucks, you can have your very own lemon and lime trees growing right in your backyard.

And if you prefer your citrus a bit more mature, they’ve got you covered with 5L plants available for just $24.99 each. With options like lime, orange, mandarin, lemon, grapefruit, and lemonade, you'll be spoiled for choice.

But wait, there's more! If houseplants are more your jam, ALDI's got a fantastic collection of kalanchoe plants, ferns, and succulents up for grabs. And at these prices, you can afford to add a little greenery to every room of your home.

Kalanchoes are priced at $6.99 each, while 90mm ferns can be yours for just $3.99. And for those who love succulents, 65mm pots are available for an unbelievable price of only $4.99 each.

Just remember to check online to see what plants are available at your local store, as there may be some regional variations. (Most plants aren't on sale in Western Australia, while the citrus plants aren't available in northern New South Wales.)

Gardening isn't just a fun hobby - it's also a fantastic way to improve your mental and physical well-being! Gardening can be a therapeutic and rewarding activity for anyone - people with disabilities, seniors, and children can all benefit from spending time in the garden, tending to plants and growing their own food.

But where do you start? Well, with some planning and creativity, you can turn your outdoor space into an edible garden that's not only beautiful but also productive. And the best part?

You don't need a massive yard to make it happen. Even if you live in an apartment, you can still get started with just a few pots and containers, or a simple window box with a few suitable cuttings or herbs.

Imagine being able to step outside and pluck fresh herbs, fruit, and vegetables for your meals. Not only will you save money, but you'll also have the satisfaction of knowing that you've grown your own food.

Benefits of growing an edible garden.jpg

Creating an edible garden doesn't require a huge amount of space. In fact, you can start one in a small area such as a courtyard, balcony, porch, or even a very small garden. If you have soil in your garden and don't need a raised garden bed, you can create a space directly into the soil.

When selecting your garden location, make sure it's a flat area that receives reasonable amounts of sunlight and is sheltered from the wind. It's also important to have a nearby garden tap for easy watering, but be careful to choose a walking surface that won't become slippery.

To make your gardening experience more enjoyable and organised, consider investing in a shed, cupboard, and bench to store materials and to pot up plants.

If you want to create a successful edible garden, there are a few key tips you should keep in mind.

1. If you have a north-facing wall, take advantage of it by growing suitable plants or vines in containers that can climb up the wall. This will not only look beautiful but also provide extra growing space.

2. Make sure to remove weeds regularly as they compete with your plants for nutrients in the soil. It's also important to compost most garden materials, as well as all vegetable and fruit scraps from the kitchen. Just make sure to leave out any problem weeds and shred your scraps well before composting.

3. Organic fertilisers and mulch are your friends. They not only conserve water but also provide important nutrients to your plants without any harsh chemicals. Fourthly, rotate your crops regularly to keep the soil healthy and nutrient-rich, and to reduce the risk of diseases.

4. When it comes to pests, try non-chemical remedies like garlic, chilli spray or milk to keep them at bay. These natural remedies are often just as effective as chemical options and won't harm your plants or the environment.

By following these tips, you'll be on your way to a thriving edible garden in no time. Plus, you'll enjoy the satisfaction of growing your own food while contributing to a more sustainable and environmentally-friendly lifestyle.
