had a lot fewer cars on the road, too - and they did not travel at the speeds of today. The good old days no rules and very few accidents
Cars were made of solid materials back then , and wouldn’t crumble like they do now , my Ford Focus had a steel body and was made in Germany, not like the Toyota Yaris I have now , it will crumple like tin foil , if bumped . Reason why so many fatalities happen now , they are light weight .had a lot fewer cars on the road, too - and they did not travel at the speeds of today.
Car ownership was a luxury - now days people seem to see it as a right. Luxuries are better looked after. More and more licensed drivers of today seem to think road rules apply to other people. Driving to the public danger is a norm.
Road rules were developed in the face of road abuse (all rules are developed in the face of abuse!). If people could be counted on to drive sensibly and in accordance with the road conditions, there wouldn't be so many road rules.
