Good news for Aussies living with Alzheimer’s: a breakthrough drug called Leqembi has just been approved by the TGA.

It targets the protein fragments that build up in the brain and contribute to the disease. The treatment is available for patients with early Alzheimer’s or Mild Cognitive Impairment.

Supporters call it a crucial step forward, giving families new ways to manage the disease. While not a cure, it’s a beacon of hope for many Australians.

Scientists at University College London have announced the first-ever successful treatment for Huntington’s disease.

No effective treatment has long existed for this condition caused by a single genetic mutation. In trials, the new gene therapy AMT-130 slowed disease progression by 75%. The treatment, which involves a one-time brain injection of functional DNA, could have lifelong effects.

Researchers say it’s likely to become the first licensed treatment for Huntington’s — a historic moment for medical science.
