Get your shoes sparkling clean with this simple DIY trick! Hint: It uses common household ingredients!

We all know how difficult it can be to keep our shoes looking pristine and brand new. No matter how often you clean them or what kind of polish you use, sometimes they just never seem to look quite right.

White shoes are especially prone to this problem, as dirt and grime seem to stick to them more easily than any other colour.

It's no secret that white sneakers are incredibly versatile, comfortable and stylish shoes. Besides, they're loved by sneakerheads (people who collect sneakers as a hobby) of all ages because they can be dressed up or down.

But that doesn’t eliminate how dirty they get. So, how should we approach this problem?

Enter the super easy DIY cleaning trick shared by none other than super-organised mum Chantel Mila!

Melbourne mum-of-two Chantel, better known as Mama Mila, has taken to TikTok to share her tip for turning dirty white sneakers ‘brand new’ again in no time. Best of all, this trick only takes a few minutes and requires ingredients you probably already have around the house!

In her video, which has been viewed over 17,000 times on TikTok alone, Mama Mila mixes up a quick paste made from 1/2 cup of baking soda and one tablespoon of dish soap.

Once it's fully mixed, she rubs it onto her dirty white sneakers with an old toothbrush (you can also use a sponge if you prefer), concentrating on any areas that seem extra stained or grimy.

After giving them a good scrub-down with the paste mixture, Chantel tosses her sneakers into a delicate washing bag (this is important!) and puts them in the washing machine on gentle.

Once they come out of the wash cycle looking good as new, she dries them either in the sun or on a drying rack – et voila! You're done!

Cleaning our shoes is one of those tedious tasks that we often try to ignore because they require hard work. But, if we want our shoes to last longer and look their best, we definitely need to clean them regularly.

My kids ( 19 and 23 ) are always cleaning their white shoes and use detol wipes
I will also just soak in a bucket of water with detergent and a little bleach.
At one stage they did wash them in the washing machine in a delicate bag but we found by cleaning in machine actually ruins them
