The old saying goes, ‘When in Rome, do as the Romans do.’ Well, when it comes to Australia, it's more like, ‘When in Australia, have a beer.’
There's no denying that Australians have a deep love affair with their beer. From grabbing a cold one after work to enjoying a pint during a rugby game, beer has become integral to Australian culture.
It's almost impossible to imagine a summer barbecue, beach day or music festival without an icy cold beer. We’re fond of the recent advancements, including non-alcoholic beer and even those strange fruit-flavoured concoctions!
And now, thanks to Victoria Bitter’s latest release, Aussie beer lovers can have an even more enjoyable experience!
The iconic brewery has just released Victoria Bitter Xtra (or VX). It's made with the same ingredients as the original VB but with an even bolder and stronger flavour. Plus, it boasts a 6 per cent alcohol content!
Victoria Bitter Brand Director, Sarah Wilcox, said that VX was brewed to cater to the growing trend for more intense flavours amongst beer lovers.
Ms Wilcox remarked: 'We’ve launched VX to give beer lovers a slightly bolder and more intense version of the great VB taste they’ve enjoyed for generations.’
'It is brewed to be enjoyed with mates and to offer more choices of great-tasting beer for various occasions.'
The new beer will come in four-pack 250ml stubbies, priced at $16, and traditional 375ml VB stubby, containing 1.4 standard drinks. VX will feature a new logo with the slogan 'For a Hard-Earned Night' and will be available at major bottle stores across Australia.
As Victoria Bitter’s VX beer launch is set to add another variety to the Australian beer market, it is no surprise that drinking preferences vary from one consumer to the next. It has been observed that Australians have increasingly started to opt for lighter beers and those with lower alcohol content.
Additionally, flavour has become an increasingly important consumer consideration in recent years, leading to a surge in craft beer popularity. In particular, consumer demand for unique craft beers, such as sour and barrel-aged, has skyrocketed.
Although light and low-alcohol beer options have been popular for years, the advent of hard seltzers and ciders has provided even more fruity and refreshing choices for those seeking a lighter alcoholic beverage.
Victoria Bitter believes there is still a place for higher-alcohol brews like VX that complement the original VB taste rather than replace it.
Victoria Bitter developed VX in response to market demand during the pandemic, with Australians turning to familiar brands. Victoria Bitter had previously reduced the alcohol content of the original VB from 4.9 per cent to 4.6 per cent, which was met with backlash from beer lovers.
However, Victoria Bitter has reassured consumers that they won't change the original VB recipe again and are now listening to their consumers
Additionally, the launch of VX adds more options and caters to Australians who are increasingly opting for bolder and stronger beers. Overall, the move seems to be paying off for Victoria Bitter.
‘We didn’t want to mess too much with the iconic VB recipe for the new VX. Beer lovers with long memories will remember we did that once before, and we definitely won’t be rushing to do it again,’ Ms Wilcox continued.
So, there you have it, folks! Before you crack open your can of VX, remember to always keep within your limits and ensure safe and responsible consumption of alcohol!
