Decorating for Christmas is one of the best parts of the holidays. It's a time to get creative, have some fun, and make lasting memories with your loved ones.
But it can also be one of the most expensive times of year — purchasing a lot of different decorations and making sure that everything matches your theme can quickly add up the costs.
And there's also the additional cost of electricity when you use a lot of lights and inflatables.
But if you're on a budget this year, never fear – there are plenty of ways to get your home looking festive without spending a fortune.
One woman has come up with a cheap and simple DIY project that you can do at home to spruce up the aesthetics of your home without breaking the bank!
The woman shared on a popular Facebook page that she was able to create a stunning 'door bow' that elevated the festive mood of her home using Kmart items.
And, according to her, the best part about this project is that it only cost her $11!
So, without further ado, here's how you can make a door bow for your home:
MATERIALS
Spare fabric / Old tablecloth (alternative - If you don’t have these on hand, Kmart has a selection of $3 tablecloths)
Giant bow (Kmart retails an $8 giant bow and a $15 battery operated LED light-up bow)
METHOD
1. Cut the plastic tablecloth lengthwise into two wide strips. (Note: The wider your strips are, the fuller your bow will be)
2. Get the measurements of your door.
3. Using your door measurements, prepare the tablecloth strips. Cut the strips to a length that is sufficient to wrap the door around. (Note: Extra length is not an issue as you can always cut it upon wrapping)
4. Wrap the fabric around your door like you're wrapping a present.
5. When you get to the end of the fabric, twist it into a cross and tuck it inside the crease.
6. Place the giant bow in the middle of the 'cross', mimicking a Christmas present.
The post has captured the attention of more than 3,000 group members, with many raving about how amazing the final look was.
One user wrote: 'You did a great job looks amazing!'
'Love it! I did my parents' and mine last year. Cheap to do with dramatic results,' another added.
Another woman said that the post inspired her to recreate the decoration, writing: 'Thanks to the lady that posted her door and gave me the idea to do my own Christmas door bow this afternoon.'
We hope this project helps you bring more festivity this holiday season without breaking the bank!
