George Carlin's view on ageing.

Do you realise that the only time in our lives when we like to get old is when we're kids? If you're less than 10 years old, you're so excited about ageing that you think in fractions.

'How old are you?' 'I'm four and a half!' You're never thirty-six and a half. You're four and a half, going on five! That's the key

You get into your teens, now they can't hold you back. You jump to the next number, or even a few ahead.

'How old are you?' 'I'm gonna be 16!' You could be 13, but hey, you're gonna be 16! And then the greatest day of your life .... . You become 21. Even the words sound like a ceremony. YOU BECOME 21. YESSSS!!!

But then you turn 30. Oooohh, what happened there? Makes you sound like bad milk! He TURNED; we had to throw him out. There's no fun now, you're Just a sour-dumpling. What's wrong? What's changed?

You BECOME 21, you TURN 30, then you're PUSHING 40. Whoa! Put on the brakes, it's all slipping away. Before you know it, you REACH 50 and your dreams are gone.

But wait!!! You MAKE it to 60. You didn't think you would!

So you BECOME 21, TURN 30, PUSH 40, REACH 50 and MAKE it to 60.

You've built up so much speed that you HIT 70! After that it's a day-by-day thing; you HIT Wednesday!

You get into your 80's and every day is a complete cycle; you HIT lunch; you TURN 4:30 ; you REACH bedtime. And it doesn't end there Into the 90s, you start going backwards; 'I Was JUST 92.'

Then a strange thing happens. If you make it over 100, you become a little kid again. 'I'm 100 and a half!'
May you all make it to a healthy 100 and a half!!

My father passed away too soon in 1996. My stepmother sent me dads gold bracelet and his wedding ring from England. My youngest daughter said when I tried the ring on, I could only get it onto the first knuckle of my left, little finger. Daughter seeing this said "Dad when you die, can I have grandad Jacks wedding ring?"

I said "Kid you will have a long time to wait, because I am going to be around until I am 115 years old? I am going to hassle you, till then!"

My daughter then said "That's not fair, you gave my big sister, you're wedding ring, after your and mum separated, 5 years ago!" I then gave her my fathers wedding ring, on the spot.

Interesting thought though, my eldest daughter had my wedding ring on her right thumb. The day when my divorce papers were legal. My wedding ring on my eldest daughters thumb, snapped! Da! Da! Da! Daaaaa! Yes I did take it to a jeweler to get it re joined! I am now 68 soon to be 69. Only 46 more years to GO! Yeeeee Hhhaaaaaarrrrrr!

I went to the funeral today of a friend , I sat there looking at his photo on the screen then back to his coffin wich had his surfboard leaning on it then back to his photo thinking ' you really were taken too young and too sudden he was 63.

He loved surfing at was a regular at Cronulla, he skate boarded daily. He helped everyone and anyone without wanting anything in return.

Up to and including the day he fell asleep he still had long hair, wore thongs , singlet and shorts. And was young at heart

Something the celebrant said, was he wasn't expecting to die so soon , he thought he would be here to grow old with his beautiful wife.

In the beginning we sat and listened to Heart of Gold by Neil Young then Spirit in the sky and Suffragette city by Bowie.

Then as we placed Rosemary on his coffin and said good bye David Bowies song Starman played.

I then realised he had a good life and even though he was taken too soon age shouldn't be a thing just enjoy your life every day and make the most out of it regardless what age we are . Age is just a number.

RIP Sweet Man

My mum passed away from cancer at 57, my older sister passed away from cancer at 54. I am almost 70 and feel so lucky that I have reached this age. I hope to live quite a few more years but as there is so much history of cancer in my family heritage I make the most of every day while I can.

Family and friend gatherings were initially birthdays culminating in the 21st, then came the weddings, but now it seems to be funerals! 😟

A positive attitude goes along way

As none of us know how long we will be on the planet I think we should enjoy each day. When my Dad turned 70 he said he was now on bonus time (having reached his 3 score years and ten). When I was 10 we always thought anyone over 20 was ancient. As we went through the decades you realise that each year is good. Now that we have a 5 year old granddaughter and an 8 week baby granddaughter life is good - they are such a joy.

My mum died at 38 when I was 16, followed by my dad three years later - both from cancer. Every time I or my children reach milestone birthdays I feel blessed that I and they have been more fortunate. I’m now 70, and my children are 49, 45, 44 (today!) and 35. Life is sweet.
