Generous mystery man makes Toyworld shoppers and staff burst into tears

In a world where headlines often speak of gloom and doom, a heartwarming tale has emerged from the Gold Coast, bringing hope and a reminder of the goodness that still exists in our communities.

Just when we thought the spirit of giving was fading, a mystery man has extraordinarily rekindled the flame of generosity.

At the Toyworld store in Helensvale, staff and customers were left in a state of emotional disbelief as an anonymous benefactor performed a kind gesture.

This secret Santa, whose only wish was to keep his identity hidden, decided to spread Christmas cheer by paying off every single layby in the store.

Imagine the surprise and sheer joy of Gold Coast local Brooklyn Manu and dozens of other families when they received calls that a generous gentleman had walked into the store and told the manager he would take care of all their layby balances.

They had been paying off the presents they had been buying for their children, bit by bit, and now they were theirs to take home without owing another cent.

Toyworld manager Aleka Riggs, her staff, and the lucky customers couldn't hold back the tears. 'We were teary-eyed, all of us were,' Riggs said.

‘It’s a feel-good thing you don’t see often; it’s beyond kindness. Amazingly, someone would do that.'

With Christmas just four weeks away and amidst a cost-of-living crisis that has tightened the purse strings of many, this act of kindness has lifted a financial burden off the shoulders of 40 families, saving them thousands of dollars.

'Just thank you again,' Riggs said, acknowledging that many families might have struggled to pay off those laybys.

This isn't the first time such a random act of kindness has graced the aisles of Australian toy stores.

The tradition started in 2020 when a mystery woman paid off $16,000 in gifts at a Burleigh Waters store.

The following year, in 2021, an elderly Victorian couple chose to spread joy to 82 strangers after a particularly challenging year for their community.

How lovely to hear something positive instead of all the negative stuff we read these days!
All we see on the nightly news is what the young hoons are doing and how many murders that day. It's all very depressing and would be nice if we got good news occasionally 😡
As for the mystery person who paid off the lay-bys, what a wonderful thing to do and as the saying goes "what goes around comes around"
So very thoughtful and kind thing to do, something which is missing in our society today unfortunately. It's all about me, me, me.

This gentleman has a heart of gold. Children will be having a joyous Christmas because of his generosity. I wonder if this gentleman could do the same for Pensioners too. That would be incredible. We are all feeling the pinch this year.

May the person who did this amazing act of selfless generosity have the most joyous and peace filled Christmas himself.....well done Sir..... Merry Christmas to you and your family members.🎅🎄❤️

I had done my weekly shop and put the groceries in the car which was parked under the shopping centre. I then found the battery completely flat. It was probably time to get a new one but I had no idea it was on the brink of failing altogether. I tried to contact the NRMA which has apparently changed its methods and was unble to reach them. I was sitting in the car with the door open wondering what to do to get help when a gentleman whom I did not know came over and asked if I needed help. I explained the situation and he said he would ring the fellow he knew at the local battery shop and borrow a gadget from him to get my car started. He did this, then went over and borrowed the gadget and got my car started and followed me to the battery shop and stayed until the new battery was fitted and powered up before leaving me.
A very good Samaritan indeed and he did this before getting his own shopping and he told me he no longer lived locally so he spent all this time helping me and I could only thank him which I felt was inadequate.

I'm pretty sure he wouldn't be able to help everyone. He sounds like he does have a heart of gold

What we would do whenever we could was make sandwiches and buy poppers and put in paper bags with fruit and go around the city and give to the homeless.
Some would ask for money which we never gave as I'm sure it would have gone on alcohol.

We my son turned 16 he would go once a month and help out in the Vinnies soup kitchen. He would also help distribute warm coats to the homeless during winter.

He also helped Vinnies with the big sleepout to raise money for the homeless.
He attended Sydney Uni and organised each year for a sleepout at the uni.

He also volunteers 4 weeks every year to go to a country town just before the nsw and QLD border but inland To teach Aboriginal children.

He is a very humble person , infact he would even hate me telling you want he has done.

The best feeling is helping others and help doesn't have to be financial
